Bachmann GP7 and 15 " curves
« on: June 26, 2015, 10:36:59 PM »

I have an Atlas Classic series GP7/9 From the 90's that runs ine around 15" radius curves including a 30 inch circle pulling cars including 50' boxcars. the Bachman GP7  says recommended 18" curves would this be able to run as well as the atlas on 15 inch curves?
why 15 in curves? well we are going to be moving next summer so i decided to make a smaller layout, 32"x 72  with a scenic divider with more detail than my current shelf layout.
thanks

if You could borrow a Spectrum or bachman + GP30 or GP35 they should
  be similar to the GP7.
   they may work.
if You are buying a New loco would look for another Atlas GP7.
the new Re-Tooled GP7 may not work, but the older Atlas/Kato or Chinese
GP7s should be similar to the one that was used on 15" curves.
the Bachman chassis with the Top Screw Mount is Inferior to the Kato type
  trucks used by Atlas.
they do not have good quality Oil-Lite bearings on the axles, have wheel wipers
that load up with crud, and are a 1-piece molding that may need plenty of Flash
  removed to work properly.
the Current Bachman Sound and DCC GPs list at $199.00, so don't think they will
be had easily for under $100.00.
try to avoid recent Atlas GPs with the Mabuchi looking can motor, locos from 5 years back
should be fine,or up-coming locos with the NEW Replacement Motors should be OK.
cant see paying a Premium Price for questionable Bachman stuff.
