Could have sworn the lineage was NH-VIA-PC-CR.

NH > PC > CR > AMTK + CONNDOT + (NY) MTA.  CONNDOT units painted in NH livery.  One MTA unit painted in NYC TTG lightning.  I think a handful of ex-AMTK units went to smaller shortlines.  AMTK and standard MTA schemes are depicted on Rapido site and will be in the first release.

VIA didn't exist until the late 1970's, and used ex CP/CN equipment...
Although the loco would look good in that scheme :)

Very, very nice. Not something I would ever run in my view of the world, but it's still a really nice model. Raising the bar, for sure.

+1 on all points...

Bryan,
I remember you and I plotting how we might make one of these ..... almost 20 years ago!

Glad you are finally going to get one.

Conrail commuter scheme is the first deco sample finished.

Man, that's nice.   Always appreciate a great looking model like that.   Doesn't help me with BNSF in Texas though.  ;-)

The Spring 2015 issue of Classic Trains is a special issue that covers the history of the F unit, and has a nice article on the FL9 that details some of the technical difficulties that they had getting these things to run.  It also has a list of the remaining units, what railroad owns them, and if they are in operation or not.  Most of these engines put in 40+ years of service, which is kind of amazing considering how unreliable they were.  They got better after Metro-North and Amtrak rebuilt them, but they'd still typically run them in pairs in case one failed.

Since I model a portion of the Hudson Division, it is really hard not to order a few of these for times when I feel like updating to the 1980's.  But there aren't any Metro-North passenger cars on the market, so it is making it easer on my wallet to just pick up an Amtrak version.

And to all you modelers who went ahead and built an N scale FL9 because you were sure nobody would ever make one ... thank you for your time and effort, without which we know otherwise nobody would have ever come out with a commercial model.

I bet if we checked his modeling closet, we would find Randy Gustafsen made an FL9 about 1 year ago and was just about to publish the article.

Although really don't need it for my small layout, to unique to pass up. Might go for a PC and NH. But then, what do you haul behind it?

We're still working on them.... getting closer.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I know the photo isn't all that clear but I have seen them and they do look nice. No flashing just drill hole and insert.
