Wahoo!

Hmm... Kiz is so couth...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

That is a great news!  The knight on a white horse (or is is a white knight on a black horse?  :D ) arrives just in time!

The 978 area code is in Northeast Massachusetts  I'm also wondering if this is related to the former Neal's-N-Gauging hobby shop which was purchased by an individual who moved the remaining stock to a shop in Manchester NH. IIRC, that shop is called Minuteman Hobbies or something like that..

This is really good news...

I don't always paint - but when I do, I prefer Scalecoat II

At least we haven't lost ALL of our traditional paints.  I imagine there are a lot of modelers, not all old-timers, who've used Scalecoat and want to be able to match it in the future.  New paints might be fine, and in some cases, might actually be better, but for some jobs color matching is important.

Having the formula is one thing.  Being able to obtain raw materials and manufacturing the product are two other things to consider.  If Minuteman already manufactures paints, will they want to add a bunch of new and unique raw materials or substitute something else they already use that may be close enough?  If I were a Scalecoat user, I would be cautiously optimistic at this point.

Perusing their website there is no evidence that Minuteman Scale Models already produce paint.  I suspect they saw a golden opportunity to expand their business to modelers of all scales and bought the whole kit and caboodle (formulas, raw material suppliers, etc.) from Weavers.

We went through this when Weaver's acquired Scalecoat, as well, so this is nothing new. What is new are the significantly increased regulatory hoops for VOCs the new owner will have to jump through to start production at their location. Fingers are crossed Minuteman won't have to tweak formulations to make it happen.

VOC regulations could be an issue, but they shouldn't affect the pigments themselves.

For those who paint more than I do, a question:  Can Scalecoat II be baked the way Scalecoat I can?  As far as I can find, the only difference in the spray cans is the percentage of the two solvents, so it seems that it should be possible, but I haven't tried it.

I don't see why not. I think the reason they don't mention baking is because Scalecoat II is specifically marketing for plastic and you know what happens when you bake painted plastic.  :)

I often "bake" the plastic models I paint in a food dehydrator at around 110 deg. F.  It speeds the drying time and dries the paint into a hard coating.  I know ti is not the same as what is recommended for Scalecoat I on metal surfaces, but it is a similar idea.
