Would be pretty dope if Trainworx does the G1 version of Optimus (original cartoon/movie). The original Optimus truck/trailer Hasbro toy, NIB, goes for ridiculous money on the collectors market.

This thread has made the expected sharp left turn at Albuquerque.     I never saw any of the transformers movies or cartoons and I couldn't care less about them, but I d like the Trainworx trucks (in any paint scheme - preferably not silly movie themes).  Bah-humbug!

As far as collectability goes, do we really need more hyped-up toys like Beanie Babies or NSC Almost State car series?  :|

If the sales of special run/collectible items helps the manufacturer to recover the tooling costs quicker - Hell Yes we do!!!! I hope TrainWorx maximizes their profits by doing a quick follow up run on these SAME trucks.

They will be doing prototype schemes for years to come!!!!

You didn't know you had to ask?  Shame on you!    You should familiarize yourself with TRW's bylaws!  :P  :D

I would like to point out that 4 out of 5 of these tractors would fit into any era appropriate layout. The W900 and K100 schemes were stock options on these trucks at the time. The ol' Rusty Pete really doesn't jump out unless you add the trailer. So unless you were a movie buff and one into 70's trucker TV shows specifically, I don't think anyone would bat an eye.

In fact, I already bought duplicates of several models with the intension to kit-bash them further. I see the "narrow Pete" as a great starting point for a plow truck.

But when it comes down to it, anything that looks passible is fine by me, movie based or not. I use a dozen or so Edmier cement trucks though they are based in Chicago on my Boston layout. Really, unless someone is looking right at the model and reading the fine print, no one will notice.

I heard a rumor that the GHQ Pete 344 and fuel tanker was inspired by Duel. Not sure if its true, but it would be interesting if that little known movie was the driving force behind so many N scale models.

The "Movin' On" truck will really fit in.  I saw it in Pasco, WA in 1977, parked at a warehouse across the street from the BN yard.  Wouldn't have thought anything of it except that my sister was a truck fan, watched the show, and was with me.  Of course, we HAD to stop, so I took some pictures, and she talked to the drivers.  I never asked her why it was in Pasco, or how the drivers had acquired it.  They certainly weren't the actors from the series, so I assumed they had bought it and kept the paint scheme.  In any case, it ran for at least a while as a commercial truck, so could plausibly appear anywhere in the late 70s or 80s, and might still be around.

Ok, was trying to figure out eras so please correct me if I am wrong:

Peterbilt 281/351 produced 1954-1976

Kenworth K100 produced early 1960s until at least 1997

Kenworth W900 produced 1961 until now! :D

Peterbilt 379 produced 1987 until 2007

Obviously many of these ran for years after production ended.

So three of the four work for my 1975 layout - awesome! 8)

There is a huge wave of modern spine cars and 89' flats sitting now on N scale layouts waiting to help offset tooling costs by purchasing lots of 53' trailers (without the need for movie licenses  ;) )

I need 20+ for my 'small' collection of flats and spines.  :)

I'm not saying manufactures are wrong or evil, I just can't help scratching my head every day that 53’ trailer void goes unfilled in N scale.

Does anyone know where I could find some of these to buy?

Do I actually have to call Trainworx? I have someone for whom they'd be a perfect birthday present, but time is of the essence.

Save yourself time and angst, and just call Pat - 970-874-9747. He's happy to help, and will ship quickly.

I have been drooling over Trainworx' earlier trailer offerings for some time now.  I'm very grateful to Pat for stepping up to the plate with modern offerings this time as well.  I'll be in for at least 30-40 53' trailers when they become available separately.

Your conclusion is almost correct that all but the Peterbilt 379 will work for your 1975 layout.  However, styling/details on the two Kenworths have features introduced in the 1970s.

The doors on the W900 were changed in 1972.  The paddle style door handles replaced the traditional handles, and they were moved down to the lower rear quadrant of each door.  Also, the lower rear corners of the doors changed from a square to rounded design.  So, the Trainworx W900 is perfect for 1975.

The Trainworx K100 has the raised roof AERODYNE sleeper which was introduced in 1976, so it is stretching a bit to have it appear in 1975.
