New Trucks from Trainworx

Hopefully, the street price will take out some of the sting, but I am definitely interested in Snowman's rig.  He and Bandit made a run through North Carolina on the way to Boston on a double-or-nothing bet to get a bowl of clam chowder for Little Enos and his daddy.

An N scale transformer.  For nearly $50.   Will wonders never cease.  I can't decide if I have to have this or I thoroughly hate. it.

Wow.  If that 53' reefer trailer does not become available separately, then there is no justice in this world.

Agreed, this is a cruel joke for a manufacture to finally offer a 53' trailer (DI ones are long gone) yet only make it a special run. 

But at least its a start to plug one of the biggest gaping holes in N scale vehicle lineup

Seeing these trucks brings up a question I've been thinking about. When I was growing up I remember seeing trucks with multiple state tags - anyone here know the story behind this and when this stopped?

I think in some cases the trucks also needed stamps or stickers for some states.

I think this was still true in 1975 (era of my layout), so I should probably consider this for some of the tractor trailers on my layout.

The other day I was curious about what the "Apportioned" tags on trucks meant, so I did some googling:

It turns out, that trucks used to have to have plates for the states they operated in, but when the IRP came along, it did away with that.

A side point is how, for example Conrail Trailvans were registered in Maine - where they probably never entered even once.

Isn't Maine one of the states that will register anything with some low fee, no inspections and no questions asked or something?

I remember seeing multiple plates on the front of tractors, so that brings it into the 1990's at least...

Damn, those are all really awesome, but I don't know if I can justify the price (to myself).

I'm not saying its out of line for such custom stuff though.

If not, then at least they make good fodder for becoming masters for someone to make resin copies (with no shrinking required).

Yeah. I mean, as a collectible thing, I get it, but sadly, it means I won't be populating York PA with lots of BJ and the Bear trucks (even though I wish I could, that thing looks so bitchin).

BTW, has anybody found any mention of these anywhere on the TWX website?  Last update there was in May.  Very odd...

If they are in fact sold out then Carter must have bought the entire lot!

I would imagine that the licensing fees to Hollywood studios for these special runs is adding several bucks to the list price....  Especially the 'Smokey and the Bandit' and 'Transformers' ones.

I can't imagine Pat not releasing the tractors and trailers in as many proto-schemes as he can in the future!

In point of fact there seems to be only two new trailers there.
