So in the movie "Duel" what is the railroad line that they cross and is visible in the background of a couple scenes?

I know it must be somewhere in Cali.. (if only there was a shot with a train in it in the movie..)

  Guess I missed that part!  Douh!

But why didn't he just open the door and get out?  (Don't ask too many questions!)

I doubt that any log hauler ever fancied up their truck like that...

You'd be surprised, they'll fancy their trucks ups just like any trucker.

That Duel tanker reminds me of the original Mad Max tanker:

Pat also confirmed (as Bryan Bussey stated) that the tractors are all new tooling, as well as the tank trailer and the 53-foot reefer.  The 40-foot trailer/reefers are from existing tooling.

Carter,

Did you ask whether these are going to be regularly available, via other the normal release schedule, or is this a one time, these products (in any paint scheme) will never be seen again situation?  If they will be available again, when?  I have needs for much of this, but not as offered.

Heh, why didn't he just turn left and floor it?   ;)

Oh, and did anyone else notice that the truck's front bumper is a piece of rail?!

The movie locations site is almost right.

Yes, Southern California, on the former SP in Soledad Canyon, railroad east (compass SW) of Acton. Crossing was off of Soledad Canyon Road near a private park known as "Soledad Sands".

I tried to locate it from satellite shots for you, but the park and probably the crossing are long gone and I have no current landmarks to go by - I'm working from memory around the time the movie was shot. I grew up in the area and Soledad Sands was a favorite family picnic spot.

Did anyone notice that when he pulled up to the crossing gate was right in front of it?
But when the truck started to push him he was to the left of it?
His tires are spinning in the gravel, not the hard surface.
You can see how far over he is at 00:12

At 00:23 if you pause you can see they've  mirrored the film... that or the dude applying 'Southern Pacific' to the sides of the covered hopper flipped the stencils.

Had to have flipped the film, the targets are facing the wrong way compared to the direction of travel of the train.

Jesse, it's the espee line in Soledad Canyon, between LA and Palmdale, on its way to Mojave, Tehachapi and Bakersfield. Today it's all UP and Metrolink...

Bryan,

This is the initial release of the models.  I did not specifically ask about future releases, but as with all Trainworx models, I am sure Pat will make more as long as the demand is there.

I will see Pat in person next week, so I hope to learn more about future releases at that time.

Reese:  A few did when we lived out there, 40 years ago, but very few.  It may be more common today, or in other parts of the country.  These were the seemingly Northwest-unique trucks, with the front bunk where the fifth wheel should be, and the "trailer" simply a pole with 2 axles at the rear.  Empty, the trailer was stacked on the tractor for the return trip.  Since moving to Kentucky in 1978 I've seen ONE back here, and it was owned by a pipeline company.  Everybody around here, even the pole and pipe haulers, prefers semitrailers with all of the bunks on the trailer.

For most log trucks then, the paint scheme was a basic single color, often yellow, with a lot of dirt, as the log roads were all dirt.  Now, custom equipment was another matter.  They'd add winches, extra fuel tanks, chain racks, fancy headache racks, knuckle-boom loaders, in some cases even a water tank for water cooled brakes.  Unless it was a company owned truck, no two were quite alike, but very few had fancy paint or chrome.  They took too much of a beating for that to be worthwhile.

They are available now. I ordered the entire group. They said they will not be offering undec parts, but will offer painted parts you can assemble yourself. Many more proto schemes to come!

God bless them!

The K900 and Peterbilt 379 will probavly share frames and parts as they are both PACCAR brands.

A bit surprised they didn't do this famous truck since they have most of the parts already:

You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away
