I have to admit that as a Canadian, and a dog-owning Canadian at that, I am really not sure what to make of the opening photo! :)

Progress continues on the P&T sawmill.  Finished the cyclones (less piping) and the log lift.





Also, prior to last night's op session I took advantage of the calm before the storm to create a 9 minute "walking" tour of the layout as I haven't posted an intro/overview video in years and an updated one was sorely needed.  I hope you find it interesting.

That's an excellent use of a photograph on the inside of the mill Mark.  It looks very convincing.

Sure worked as intended for me. I noticed the detail, but it didn't even register that it was a photo. Nicely done.

Mark, what's with the overspray on your control panel?

I have to say that I greatly envy your ability to wing it when it comes to shrinking down that mill.  I took a look at it on Google Earth and some photos I found online (wish I could find more) and it's massive.  And that log loading apparatus?  I would have gotten hung up on nailing it bolt for bolt and you've just nailed its essence in one brush stroke.  Kudos!  You're a hero of mine now.

Jim: not over spray, although I admit you made me go and check!  It is shadows from the lighting beneath the upper deck going through the grid work of the log lift.

Eja:  Catenary.  That;s one of the reasons I keep the cats out of the train room.  At the time I hung the overhead for my Milwaukee Road branch we only had one cat that jumped, and she could walk on the railroad without hurting anything.  I also used Ncat pantographs, designed for live overhead, because they were the only American style ones available.  They had very strong springs, so I used a lot of tension on my overhead to keep the wire from bowing up between poles.  She kept getting tangled in the wires, and the wires didn't give.  There were several times she sounded injured, so I put up a gate to protect her from the railroad!  And, yes, I've cut my fingers on the wires a few times, being careless, so they really are dangerous.

Now, we have a couple jumpers who get into things, so it's a good thing the gate is already up.

While messing with my HOn30 shay I decided to mess with a Minitrains 0-4-0 I started a while back. Got most of the paint done and finished the scratchbuilt tender.

Took our annual trip to MN last week.

We stopped in Omaha NE because the UP and CNW historical societies were having their conventions and UP parked the last two CNW units in CNW paint, the CNW heritage unit and a brand new unit by the old Burlington station.









We were also treated to a backup move on the CN that required a shoving platform.





And with all the flooding, Amtrak was 11 hours late and just happen to show up when we were there.



Traveling up the 35 we spotted this on the side of the road. 



A local said it was was a passenger excursion for raising money for fire fighters.

When back to Bandana Square to see the O scale layout there.  Looks like this will be the last year at this location as the rent is now $140,000 a year (yes you read that right).



Finally went to the old Amtrak station at Midway.  Amtrak now uses the renovated Union Depot in St. Paul.  I'm sure this structure won't be around too long so I took a bunch of shots.
