Back to the little trains......Does Weaver make anything in N scale?

Yes, they had a full line of excellent N scale products called . . . paint!

Good quality old-fashioned organic solvent based paint.  Easy to brush oh, and it airbrushed with no fuss and no tip clogging (that water-based paints are infamous for).  It adhered well to metal and plastic and dried to a glossy finish, perfect for decaling without need to apply any additional (detail-hiding) coats of clear lacquer.  And it smelled good too!   ;)

Not sure if it would do any good, but it's worth a try? You could try contacting Bowser Mfg. and see if they would be interested in picking up the Scale Coat Paint and Weaver O scale models? Montoursville is literally up river from Northumberland, they are only separated by 36 miles. Now price maybe another question?

There're still paints -- tons and tons of paints!! Made for the military and D&D and fantasy figures and plastic models crowds, for the crafts workers with their castings, modpodge, whatever (think Micheal's), art stores for the thousands of students in art classes .... what's the problem?  Because the bottle of paint they buy says "Modern Blue" instead of "D&H Blue" people are going to get cranky and pouty-- even tho it's the same freakin' shade and hue?
Wake up ... open your eyes ... there is a huge market for small bottles of "hobby paint" in this country and overseas. Sorry your favorite-smelling version of "ATSF Red" won't be around anymore but you'll ALWAYS have some red paint that fits the bill.

You have totally missed my point:  I DO NO LIKE WATER-BASED PAINTS!!!  All the ones you mentioned do me diddly-squat!  I couldn't care less what the color names are.

So let me get this straight, Peteski: As far as you're concerned, the jury is still out on the value of water-based paints?

I think Peteski has posted enough evidence on this board to classify his hobby space as an EPA Superfund site.  Don't answer the door

Geez!

Where was the government nanny in the 60s, 70,s and 80s when all the hobbyists were using those stinky and hazardous paints, sniffing glue and airplane dope?   :|  With all those hazards, I somehow managed to survive into my 50s. I'm still alive and kicking.   8)

Um, what are those guys in white full-body suits doing in my driveway?!  Why are they carrying those strange containers? Hey, what are you doing?  Leave my Floquil paints alone! Come on, can't a guy have some fun and get high building a model?   :D

Oh man, back in the day there was nothing better than

Unless you were working on Guillow's balsa wood airplane kits, then you needed

but for some unknown reason the name was changed, but the formula stayed the same

and we always had our old standby for custom painting railroad models

No wonder the good old days were so good      :scared:

They were making LSD and collecting names.  They still have them too.

Water-based paints, for models, are OK, I guess but compared to the original Floquil or Scalecoat, they SUCK.

It's kind of like my 1989 Formula I used to have. It was built in California and they were forced to use water-based paint. It looked fabulous when it was new but the paint didn't last. The problem is different with models (the paint sucks to try to brush out) but there you have it.

On the other hand...

The dearth of decals recently has dramatically reduced the amount of painting I even do anymore.

I think the only stuff I have painted recently are Showcase kits and some patch jobs on freight cars.

I've been using Tamiya cans for this work - as well as the cheapo black and white spray paints from Walmart
and if done on warm dry days - outside - yields great results.

I have a slew of unopened Scalecoat which I just my have to offer for sale, at significant mark up, when I get my trains out of storage.

I just got an update on my Scalecoat II paint order from Internet Trains. All but 4 bottles of paint/thinner were backordered. I sure hope Weaver has a decent stock left. Lawdy, what'll I do if I can't get my loco black paint?

Hmm... that would suck...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

ljudice:  The only reason I use Scalecoat paint is for the spray cans - and unlike the old Floquil cans, Scalecoat's work very well.  I have four bottles of the paint, from the 70s, which still look good, but it doesn't brush well.

My problem is that their oranges and yellows haven't been available in spray cans for several years.  The claim was that their supplier had trouble putting those colors in cans, which doesn't make sense.  I wonder if they've been letting the stock run out while deciding whether to close?

I'll especially miss their Empire Builder Orange, as it was my standard for passenger cars.
