Engineshop:  Do you know what happened to the Visp station?  Torn down and replaced, or destroyed somehow?

I know I am not engineshop but I did use google and it seems the old building was replaced by this one:

A pretty station with lots of charm and character was replaced by a glass box.  How dull!

Thist link may give you an answer why "the pretty staion with lots of charm" wasn't sufficient enough anymore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visp_railway_station - How many trains a day ? How many passengers ?

Whatever... That building is literally a glass box. They could have designed to look a bit more interesting.

Built the PRR AR Tower from the N Scale Architect kit. It's a pretty nice model, but it takes a fair amount of work. It replaces a generic tower on my layout with a PRR prototype. Still to be added are details and an interior.

Cool! Are you going to do the warning horn on the outside?

I'm not an architect, but it may have been designed this way to reflect the impressive mountainscape that surrounds it.

If reflecting the mountains on the outside isn't good enough for you, consider the view of the mountains that can be had from the inside now.

Yes, and other details shown in the Keystone Modeler #38 article.

A pretty station with lots of charm and character was replaced by a glass box.  How dull!

As mention earlier, the station Visp changed from a rural train stop to a major hub over night when the 21.5 mile long Lötschberg tunnel opened in 2007. Now even international trains from northern Italy, France and Germany stop there and the station also became the official switching point between the national train system and the MGB mountain train company (which I model). The new station building was not really needed in this size  but 90% of the building is rented out to private businesses and stores. This is prime location in a country where most of the people commute by train or public buses.

Doug,

The reflection off the windshield of that lead sled outside your tower is uncanny.  What did you use?

Less risk of being impaled by a frozen stalactite , and I bet it costs less to maintain and heat . Wonder if there is a headlight glare that the engineer sees , or if the reflective light annoys anybody else .

Jerry,

I try shake the hand of every service man and woman I meet.  We owe our existence to people like you, and anyone reading this who have served.  So thanks.

And thanks for posting that link.  It's a facet of the Second World War that I had never considered and it very interesting.  You've peaked my interest and I'm researching to see if anything like that was done in Canada.

Thanks Jerry.

As a disabled veteran (and an employee at the Department of Veterans Affairs) I'm always mindful when someone takes the time to share a part in our history (and those who created it) without any prompting. We have too many folks who simply choose to ignore or were never taught about the sacrifices of many Americans and particular those who stepped into harms way (and continue today). This weeks photo intro and your contribution in this thread is terrific.

Thanks, it is really appreciated.
