the usual requests

forumers.

I want...

not a need, just a want.

to some extent that want is the  problem for our manufacturing brothers.
I need food. I need water.
while a soda-pop has both food and water, it is a want, not a need.

back to my want.
I want an entertaining model loco.
shiney and new.
Free of fuss, worry, or outright failures.

The b-mann berk has a lot of entertainment in it.
and I am tired of upgrading drivetrains.
while it may chuff, I do not.

installing improved pick-ups is something to do and can be
a way to spend many joy filled hours.
Your RR pacific with a replaced motor will give you much amusment then.
I does not seem 'new.'

this past weekend I had a little time to set a kato mike
on my loop and pull a short consist of favorite cars
and a random caboose.

it was no fuss. loco whirred, and headlamp glowed that special yellow,
and cars rolled by ... once a minute or so like clockwork.

dunno...
in this case Kato makes it look easy.

an interesting illusion.

I have some money....
what I seek seems unavailable.

so I want.

How far are you willing to stray in search of the nebulous?  If I might be so bold, why not consider one of the Arnold Crocodiles? Diesel like reliability and all the side rod action your heart could desire as well as solid mechanism, ability to run off catenary wire, easy DCC upgrade, a growling run sound, plus nobody else has one. Very interesting to watch it run pulling a short passenger car excursion train.
Modeling Southern and N&W in the southeast.

And the design is probably about 40 years old by now. Old school and still good, robust and reliable.  Actually Minitrix also produced a similar Crocodile (just as good of a design).  I have both and I like the Arnold better (due to a more complex version of the running gear).
. . . 42 . . .

I figured that you would be asking for one of these; I never knew they existed until recently... :)

If it runs with the bulletproof reliability of a Kato Mike, I'll take it.

I have to share this
the jpeg loaded VERY very slowly for me.

after the image got to the top of the boiler
I laughed and said it has a three axle tender.

Atlantics are fun.

I'll take darned near any steam engine.
with a big 'if'  IF it is properly built.

b-mann's berk does not make that cutoff
Kato's FEF I hold my opinion until I know more about the motor in it.

Ah well.
still the usual requests.

This will be anathema for you:  Intermountain F-7A/B, with "drop-in" Digitrax decoders.
Or don't you think diesels qualify as locos?  :D

I have a few BAR f units that IM made.

like the Atlas Diesels they resemble,
they are reliable

I don't run them much.

I don't think I want an Atlantic in particular....
it was a tease of Atlas as much as anything else.

the Kato mike reminded me about why I like them so much.

a loco that I think would be a commercial success  would be
the Southern PS-4 as found in the Smithsonian and a matching train.
... If Kato did it...

ah well...
all the usual requests.

That PRR 700 looks like it would be a very simple loco to model, mechanically.  Large boiler for motor and weight, the gear train could be in the firebox, with idler gears between the divers hidden in the frame, so the space between the frame and the boiler was open.  The wheelbase is short enough that just lateral motion should be enough for the trailing truck, even on model curves, meaning no complicated, derailment-prone swinging truck, and that three-axle tender would be just as easy to make, complete with all-wheel pickup.

Given the number of eastern roads with similar locomotives, it may even be possible to reuse the mechanism, possibly with different drivers and tender, for other models.

And, offensive as the word may be to some, it's CUTE!  I have no idea what my 1974 BN would use one for, but I have a few less likely locomotives.

I have four Atlantic types, I love the way they run.... They are painted orange and grey courtesy of Fox Valley Models.

Hmmm... that croc doesn't have enough wheels for me.

But stretch it out and drop it on a modern Spectrum Connie?  You'd have some great monkey action down low and odd ball eye candy up top.

Too bad I model SoCal or this D&H 1011 would be near the top of my list to bash (repowered of course).

(The stock tender only needs a new decals ... or perhaps improved pickup which they sell in their DCC ready upgrade tender).

I have to be careful...
I make a post with a want
and it costs me the price of a brass loco.

I found it funny when I realized this...

I'll want at less lofty prices next time.

now I want to know how to wait with patience....
:scared: I may have to rethink that.
