Kato: FEF-3 Re-release Announced

http://www.katousa.com/N/FEF/index.html   Hadn't seen this re-run announcement discussed yet.

That was fast. Obviously they didn't want any grass to grow under their feet since demand was still good. Good, but not crazy - eBay resales have been in the $250 range for a while.

I personally would like to see a reissue in 8444 trim, for us '60s and '70s modelers. I've spoken to Kato reps twice about this, so maybe others have, too. Hopefully that's somewhere in the process.

I think I am safe this round.

I await the grey paint....
and I wonder how long the spare motors will stay in stock.

I'm safe this round as well, although I won't be safe when they release the actual 50's era paint job...

The BLW web site indicates that there will be a factory ESU LokSound version available.

Interesting that more and more manufacturers are putting ESU LokSound decoders in.  Atlas, Intermountain, Fox Valley (for the new run of the Hiawatha), and now Kato.

I'm just about finished converting my entire fleet of Walthers/LL Berks to ESU LokSound, after 10 years of running them with dual-decoder installs using a Lenz silver mini for motor control and a TSU-750 for sound.   Still wish ESU had some of the features of the Tsunami (automatic steam hiss on stop; equalizer circuit; better chuff "bark" for superpower steam like the Berk), but the combination of ESU's motor control and regulating the chuffs to driver rotation using the BEMF circuits is a winner.  And I think ESU may be working on a UP844-specific sound file, which makes this even more interesting.

Wished this run included the Greyhound Scheme...

With the re-release of the FEF3 and UP Exec/Excursion Train, does this mean we will not see a new "Name-Train" come Christmas, or shortly thereafter? They usually begin banging the propaganda drum during the summer timeframe. In previous "Name-Train" discussions it was perceived it would be at least 1 per year.

I wish I had a reason to get an FEF ...

One of these days Kato will make a steamer that I want (hopefully).  8)

Anyone else waiting for Kato to rerun the City of Los Angeles or some other UP name train? Would make sense with Kato's FEFs, also Athearn's upcoming BigBoy and Challengers too.
