Tried using chinchilla dust as dirt......not happy with the results

What on earth is chinchilla dust?

So, Chinchillas bathe in dust much like birds do. The dust helps them control the oil in their coats. They also really, REALLY enjoy it.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

little late to the party, but did most of the work this weekend.

BN SD40-2B 7502

Started life as a UP SD40-2 early without dynamics, using a long hood end of a GP35 for the cab end, and the dynamics off a mid production SD40-2 hood, as the hood is now a spare being I'm doing SD40-2 7023, which had its long hood rebuilt using an SD45 long hood.

Parts pile

Parts mocked up

Getting a bit further along

As she sits currently

Going to continue splicing sections of handrail in, just not that comfortable with metal stanctions and bending wire.

I continue to make progress on repainting my City of Los Angeles set. Sleeper-Lounge Ogden is fresh out of the shops with silver trucks and tinted windows. Only two more cars to go !

Bill...looks great!...
are you just tinting the windows and repainting the trucks on this set, or are you repainting the entire car?...I have no issue with the 'new' color on the COLA set...

Bruce,

I mask off below the bottom red stripe and spray a white primer followed by Tru-Color UP Yellow. I then repaint the top red stripe and decal. The problem I had with the KATO COLA yellow is that it doesn't match any yellows I already had in my UP or MILW fleets, especially my brass Railway Classics Olympian Hiawatha. I know cars fade, get painted at different times, weather differently, etc but to me it was just too far off to be believable.   Everyone's mileage may vary on that and that's cool. (I don't want to start another Kato yellow debate!) I'll be able to run Milwaukee cars in the latter day COLA consist and it will look right to my eye.

Thanks John

Kinda sorta but not really. Its one gripps luggage it. I cut the walls at the pilasters, sand the edges square and glued them together. That's the kinda sorta part :)
I'm surprised I got an eighteen inch building out of one kit.

Dick

thanks for opening up my mind to the possibilities.  I have two of these, was trying to figure out how to kitbash

Great looking bash! For me, a good old fashioned kitbash like this is one of the best parts of the hobby. :D
