Bill, congratulations on the fabulous cover, and the equally fabulous and extmely "cool" centerfold! The neatness of your modeling just astounds me....not a hair out of place! Thank you for sharing what N scale can be with the rest of the world... an inspiration for us all.
There are a couple of other stunning layouts featured in this NSR issue as well; N scale is indeed alive and well!
Best, Otto K.

I haven't seen the issue, but knowing Bill's quality of work (both here and in the past articles in NSR) I'm sure it is superb.  But unfortunately since NSR is most likely not widely read by modelers in other than N scale, they won't get to see that N scale is alive and well (and just as good looking as larger scales).  But we do know that N scale is alive and well.

Thanks guys ! I consider the "cool" centerfold as my best photo ever. I took that picture years ago but just recently finished the rest of the article. I remember showing my wife that photo and she asked where I shot it. She couldn't believe it was done in our basement in the summer. I hope to follow up the C&NW pint sized passenger train article with one featuring the Milwaukee Road.

Yes, N scale is alive and well and I sometime think I should be sending articles to either Model Railroader or Model Railroad Hobbyist to help get the word out there. It's just that NSR is so easy for me to work with and I love the way they present my material. The cover is a good example. I didn't shoot that photo as a possible cover. They cropped another of my photos and went with it as the cover shot.  I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. Thanks to Kirk Reddie and Bill Edgar, you guys rock !!!

+1 on the kudos, Bill.  I got my issue last night when I got home from the office and, as is always the case, your modeling spurs me to be a better modeler.  Thanks for the great photos and for the motivation.

Great work as usual Bill, well done.
We had a visit from Gordon Bliss from Texas (a regular contributor also) the past weekend so that was kinda cool also.

I may have to get the issue just to find out how that cover E7 made it to the late 60s (and in that paint scheme to boot).  ;)

I was really looking forward to this issue. Not only because I greatly admire Bill's work, but also because I'm a fan of "short" trains. And I was not disappointed. Well done Bill. (Although next time, you could try NOT to make it looks so real. I showed your pics to a couple non-model RR friends. And one of 'em insisted those were prototype photos. Seriously.)

Who said it made it to the late 60's? You know what happens when you assume something ! Lol

Who ever wrote this for NSR -

"Bill illustrates how to model several late 60s C&NW passenger service with available equipment."

Thank You. I hope to do a "short" train article on the Milwaukee Road next! It will bedifficult to come up with better photos though. (or even get close again) I was trying hard not to photograph on previously seen modules so the scenes don't look redundant to past articles.

Ahhh, Kirk's intro. The article also has examples of early 60's passenger trains.

Just checked my copy of the 400 story. There is a photo of an E7 pulling the Kate Shelley on April 31,1971. You are correct about the paint scheme though.

Fantastic modeling and top-notch photography. Amazingly realistic.

What's the story on the coaling tower? Is it a 3-D model or a photoshopped image?

But the E7 on the NSR cover was retired in '62.  :)

I think I'm getting up to Denver next week, if I get to Caboose, I'll have to check this all out, it sounds great.
