I think this may be close enough for me.

Foobie, yes, but still nice. Especially since the HGM kits are scarce.

I think modifying the doors to porthole windows similar to what we discussed about the B70 gets you close enough for anything short of a PRRT&HS meeting...

I actually received my baggage car from MBK today. Gonna see what happens tonight with it!

Portholes should be as easy as a piece of styrene with a hole drilled... :P
Right?

Got my baggage car today too and now I'm not entirely convinced there's enough depth there to add a styrene veneer over the baggage doors.

Cut the doors out and add styrene from behind.

Sigh....  Trying to avoid that.  Concerned about getting clean edges.  My hand doesn't work as well as it used to.

I came to that same conclusion.

Not hard, but not fun. The worst part is the part of the door that's attached to the floor.

Why not just shave the details off the door and remove the vertical window bars, and use 0.010" styrene cut to fit the opening with a brass ringed porthole?  woud the styrene surface not be deep enough?

You would still have to do a perfect job of filling in the panels on the door to pull that off.  But it's certainly an option.

I'm going to do a similar thing to one of my Erie cars...remove the existing doors and fabricate a 'newer' wood door (as retrofit by Erie...bot wood and steel doors)...I'll use my Sweetie's Silhouette Cameo to make the door in two parts...laminating them to create the two layer paneled doors...

Going back to Joe's original post, do we have photos yet?

Looking at having first shots of the shell and other components of the CB$Q proto this week.   As soon as they show I'll post them.

Cheers

Let's see YOU do one ahahahaha!!
The porthole is not getting the brass ring treatment. It's already a foob and I don't want to invest time in that.

I have not had much luck with drilling large holes in thin plastic. It's flimsy. Plus, it's easier for me to paint ala cart. I hope to finish this tonight! Gonna weather the crap outta this!

I'm planning on busting out the ol' Silhouette to get a precise fit door and porthole. We'll see how it goes.

Easy to do both tasks (smoothing the door and adding the porthole) with a milling machine.  But I also will remove the doors and add new ones, most likely etched brass, when I have an undec baggage on hand to turn into a modernized Erie version.  The door openings can be made true with jewelers files after the doors are roughed out.
