Only one problem with the GN cars:  the prototypes were built with roofwalks, and apparently kept their high brakewheels after losing the walks.  According to one online photo GN 200027 kept its roofwalk at least until Dec 1976.

Bryan:  Different doors.  If anything, rebuilding plug doors is even more tedious than moving brakewheels.  I've put high brakewheels on ExactRail boxcars, so know that it can be done, but it's still a pain.

Why did I do it?  There is a serious lack of NP 50 ft double door boxcars in N scale, mostly because they built their own, and nobody else had similar ones.  They also seem to have stuck with plate B cars even after the plate C cars became popular.  ExactRail did their Gunderson boxcar in NP, and it looked very much like the 6000-6499 series, in spite of the several inches of extra height.  But the prototypes kept their high brakewheels even after losing the roofwalks, so, when I painted some extras in other NP schemes, I moved the brakewheels.  GMM ladders worked fine on them, the brakewheel and housing can be reused with careful carving, but getting the extra plastic out of the end ribs is a real pain.

At first glace, it would seem the GN car is a bit of a foob albeit a nice one.

The GN car is the right body style, it's just that the ladders are too modern.  It's possible that one was rebuilt with the lowered brakewheel, but so far I haven't found a picture showing that.
