Adam,

I have a few little nits to pick, but  I think it is looking good.    I think you have the right proportions and
things are fitting onto the mechanism right, so it's going to work.

The walkway looks high because it  is arching up in the middle right now and that makes
the boiler look a little high.
When you straighten the center "bow" out of the walkway, I think the height proportions will be right, just basing this on eyeballing your model photos and the prototype photo you showed.  Look at where the end of your walkway sits over the cylinders, and how that utility box has to fit in there between the top of the cylinder and the underside of the walkway.  I think you have it just about right.

When you add some appliances, like the power reverse under the walkway, that will help to visually close
up that space down to the drivers.

One thing to do see that you might want to work on:
The joint between the added boiler section and the smokebox section (where it goes from black to silver on your model)
looks like it is flaring out a little at the joint with the silver part.   A little sanding there with a piece of sandpaper
wrapped around the joint would straighten that out.  The prototype looks really straight through there, like
the barrel of a gun, so it would be good to preserve that look.

I think this is coming along nicely.

Max,  thank you for the advice. Ithe bulge you see up top is from my patch job over the old sand dome that i do need to sand down a tag bit more. It's amazing what shows up in a photo that's hard to see with the naked eye! I  believe the walkway  hump is from the camera as the track line also has an arch to it. They looked clean with the straight edge when I first mounted them. I'll have some more photos tonight after the walkways are extended forward.

I figured otto. Just giving you a little crap lol. I have a source for the Bachmann vc12 tenders. I have shortened a couple so far and added the water compartment additions. I need to do the extended oil caps on them though. My biggest issue is trucks. The Bachmann and concor commonwealth trucks are horrible and look that way on the shortened tender. I think I need to order some of the miniatures by Eric trucks. I've also done one with the bettendorf trucks.

I didn't like how far back the cab and firebox set back from the rear driver so I slid them forward. Still looks rough but it's getting there. I also sand the top of the boiler to knock down the small hump Max pointed out. Still lots of work to do! [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Adam - I'd see about getting some Mr Surfacer, probably the 1000 to fill in those scratches and small imperfections from filing and sanding.  It will help help payoff all of the hard work thus far.

Yup wazz. I pit sone paint on to help me see what wasn't looking right. The bare bread tubing was was missing with me. I have lots of sanding to do to get things cleaned back up.
