Could be. But then there were lots of locos we had to wait decades for (and still waiting for some). I guess the older we get the shorted is the time we are willing (or can) wait for new models to come out.

I'd rather have the FA-2 model. That extra space is for the steam generator so I can use it to pull my super fabulous Rapido passenger cars! (end shameless plug)

How many roads actually used their FA2s for passenger service though (besides LIRR)?  I don't remember ever seeing any pics of this phenom.

  Long Island units were Power Cars,not Locos,and they didn't seem to have any FPAs.
   B&O used their FPs on Charters and Specials mainly,rarely regular scheduled trains.

  MLW built 193 units total
  Alco built 366 A Units of FA/FPA-2 units,192 B Units of FB/FPA-2
  MLW built 126 A Units of FA/FPA-2/4,67 B Units of,FB/FPB-2/4.
  ALCO built 396 FA-1 Units,215 FB-1 Units.
  MLW built 28 FA-1 Units,20 FB-1 Units.
   will leave the Black Maria units off of this Talley.
  do these numbers add up to the other Totals ?

LL FLOODED the market with them before they went away.

They dumped a huge number of them through Kleins. We had cases and cases and cases of them that we sold in those sales Chris is talking about above.

$39.99 for an AB set.

The problem was that they had way too many of the low-selling road names, and not enough of the popular ones. It was good news for custom painters, but bad news for people who were hoping for future releases of slightly lower appeal roads.

I'm guessing that's the reason Walthers is still sitting on them 10 years later.

   what do the CN/Via FPA-B units have to do with Long Island ?
  saw the CN units pulling plenty of Passenger trains on visits to
  Toronto.even saw and took a pic of one of the rebuilt to FPB-4
  status ex FPB-2s at Spadina.
  what was said that all Long Island FAs were rebuilt from Frieght
  FA-1/2s,and they Did Not Pull any trains,the C420s,GP38-2s and
  MP units pulled,or pushed the trains.
  the FAs supplied HEP for Lighting,Heating,A-C,and other needs the
  cars had.
  they were Formerly Locomotives,but Not used that way by Long Island.
  the ex-CN FP4s were used by VIA as locos until Retired and sold off.
  some are still being used as locos on Tourist lines.

My bad... was still having trouble focusing on the text and wanted to get the comment posted before I headed out to pay bills.  My bad... but it can't be helped... while the cataract surgery fixed my distance vision (after 54 years of having to use "coke bottle bottom glasses") my near vision is gone with the surgery making it hard for me to tell what things sometimes say for an hour or two after waking up.  Sorry!!!
