Hi Keith @kschmidt626 - which email address should we send these suggestions to?

Here's some starting points for you:

Feel free to check out Eric's great Housatonic layout to get a feel for how good big structures and warehouses look in N:

Those are all awesome options.

But I would like to mention that, please don't just scale them down 50% from HO. Look for opportunities to make various parts less compressed. It kills me how small some of the Walthers "large" industrial buildings actually are.

I guess "It was nice to talk you" would be the best way to start this.  I was one of the N Scalers at the Walthers booth that told you to send N scale ideas to Walthers.  I enjoyed the show and everyone that we talked to was great.  Looking forward to next year.

Keith

Hi Keith!  Didn't know you were a member here or I would have made my Walthers report less dead pan and talked you up more.  :)  I really hope you guys will be able to come back to the spring show next year just maybe this time with some N scale.

You already know I'm looking for a GP30 up to current standards.  I will e-mail a more formal write up in the near future.

Damn, that's a bit much, isn't it?

I think insulting bricks is a bit much, yes.

why am I laughing?

after the way the company that bought LL has acted toward n-scale
I am not too concerned about what that company does, or thinks.

I will echo the request for large industrial buildings for N scale.  I have been modifying HO scale structure kits to be used in N scale.  The larger sized buildings, with n scale detailing would be a welcomed addition.

I'm more concerned with the standard of civility around toward other forum participants. So I (and I'm sure the other moderators) DO care.

Walthers Cornerstone structures account for probably half of the structures on my layout...so what Walthers does (or doesn't do) in N scale is a very big deal, at least to me.

I'm glad they're asking...hopefully Keith can convince them that there's money to be made in N scale.  I don't think insulting them is the way to convince them of that.

From my perspective, I'd love to see mach of what Walthers has done in HO Pennsy rolling stock in N scale, like RTR B60bs, N6 cabins, RB50s, etc.  If BLI hits a home run with these PRR M1s, we're gonna need lots of stuff to run behind them!

Keith, thanks for coming up on the net and listening.

ah.
good point.

I did not read it as a personal insult type of thing and I can see where that is quite possible.
I think one should be very clear that it is the Company that is the intended recipient of the insult.

anyone who can post here is to be given understanding and respect.

makes sense to me and I will follow that guideline.

.... it is safe to assume the average Brick won't post.

I have a sure-fire idea:  If we can sway majority of H0 modelers to convert to our, vastly superior, N scale then Walthers will have no choice but to make more N scale kits (since N will be the most popular scale)!  8) :D

Come on people, Walthers is simply placing safe bets by catering to modelers who model in the most (by a large margin) popular scale.  Nothing new - nothing unusual . Most model train manufacturers are biased towards H0.  Walthers also got burned few times by making N scale items which did not sell (like the modular walls or their run of passenger cars), so they are a bit shy to make more N scale stuff.  IMO, part of the problem is with either the items themselves or with what seems to be unreasonably high prices Walthers is asking for their wares.  Many modelers (including myself) simply don't buy them at the list price, waiting for the items to be sold off at a closeout prices.

The modulars should have been a home run, but they scale funny in N scale...  They seem more like TT scale than N.  Not an insult, just an observation.  A better-scaled modular system should do better IMHO.

The passenger cars should have done better sales-wise though.  The models are well done and they are easily kitbash-able.
