This week I spent time painting some locos that have been on the workbench for over a year.

First VIA Rail 6417. I didn't rebuild the body just painted a stock F40PH.





And also painted DME 6083.

Love the F40!!!  What colours did you use for the grey and teal?  You really nailed them.

I worked some more in the tranquil Slocan Valley, painting the backdrop just North of Vallican and added a valley farmstead. 





Then finished off the backwater of the Slocan River.  The Slocan winds through the valley leaving many shallow, sandbank-ridden, secondary waterways.  I also added a bunch of Supertree-deciduous and modified conifers from a few sources in the background.  Here the Slocan wayfreight is making its way up the valley to switch out Slocan Forest products mill at the lakefront of Slocan City.

Thanks Craig, The Renaissance Blue is a mix I made up a few years ago. It is Polly-S GN Glacier Green with BAR Blue until it looked right. I was smart to mix up a whole bottle so i have enough to do 10-15 more. The Gray is all decal. Microscale 60-1359. It is the worst decal i have ever worked with. I have done 2 of these locos now and i learned a lot the first time. It takes 2-3 days with about 15 application of Solvaset to get it to lie down right. If you put the solvaset on to thick the decal will get these round marks on the gray and will not go away and look so bad.

Mark , is that barn ramp angle correct ? What has the power and nerve to climb it ?

Mark - I note that your CP H-16-44 looks like a Bachmann, but appears to have wire hand rails.  Is that because you couldn't get the old ones off intact to repaint it?  I've been trying to get the hand rails off of mine and am about ready to give up.  Your railings look darn good - hope I can do as well.

Mark, on your Slocan Valley, I concur... Holy c**p!
I looked through one photo after another and actually felt myself becoming more tranquil, like you
do when you look at a good oil painting.  It's close enough to real to fool my mind into having that
emotional reaction.   Mighty fine work there.

Hi George...the C&W's H Liners (10 of them) were constructed from Kaslo Shops kits over atlas H16-44 mechanisms by Jeff Briggs of Briggs Models.  They run beautifully and are the pride of my fleet.
