on flat level track you can pull 8 passenger cars.

when you get to a grade (a loop?) the loco spins ?

at the transition to the grade? is the grade a helix/curved as it rises?

hi mcjaco,

time to sort out reasons.

is the loco lifting the inside drivers?

I am thinking the #2 as the more likely culprit.

the rules are simple here
anything that lifts or moves the traction tire off the rail(yea, even one)
is to be avoided.

one way or another this is happening.

the drivers should be able to move sideways in the bearings

get lhe loco onto a 9.75 inch loop and watch it.

does it lean?
does it run the lead driver up on the railhead?

is there a tight spot
is is easy to put on the rails?

look for anything that keep the drivers from moving side to side.

once you are sure the axles/drivers are all following rail
and not causing the lifting....
the tender and engine trucks are next....
same deal.... look for engine getting lifted (it will be darned small)

after that.....
find a Kato FEF chassis...

No, after that, install sound decoder and let it sound pretty in the loco facility and call it a day.

Gentlemen,

I'm very happy to report that CMRY #34 can pull my entire Midland roster (built so far) to the tune of five 36' freight cars and two cabooses (way cars to the Midland) at any speed, including a crawl, silently and with any discernible slippage on the 10" curve/2% grade.

I'm confident now that she will be a good and faithful servant in service between Aspen and Basalt, capable of any tonnage the branch could possibly generate.

Thanks so much again for all your help!
