Yeah, it looks like the no-logo/small-logo cars could stand to be a tinge more red.  I'm going to get some anyway because they're quite appropriate for Tehachapi, and they look really good.  I'll repaint them --- eventually --- if it ends up bothering me.

Yeah, I'm just gonna have to come down off the window ledge I guess.    Got word from the LHS....he originally said he was stopping receipt of shipments mid September but now that's pushed back to mid October and he said my BX-166's are on the way.   Disappointing but I'll live.   Maybe we can talk Craig into fixing the color on later runs.

I wonder if it is just a bad photograph? It looks like the photo was too dark and lightened up a lot.  Compare to the Logo version photo.

I am perfectly prepared to believe that.  It's nice to have another beer (wine) car to complement the more common Red Caboose model.  I'm picturing a string of these in a wine train with different degrees of fade & graf, and I really like what I'm picturing.  :)

I like that photo too.  Looks like @GonzoCRFan and @rswinnerton are in it.

The photo MBK has posted is actually a photo we took of our pre-production model.  It appears they darkened the image to match the production cars.  (Notice the small yellow reflectors under the white reflectors on either end of the car which were removed before final production.)

That said, it's always slightly frustrating to hear comments on any model before they are 'in-hand'.  When thousands of hours have been spent tirelessly researching a project and doing our 110% effort on all levels, it's a shame to see a snap judgement based on a highly modified picture of a pre-production model.

I can assure everyone a huge amount of time was spent on these cars - everything from the engineering, to paint artwork, and colors.  The color used was supplied with support from members of the ATSF historical society and original ATSF paint codes.  Fact is: color is extremely subjective due to atmosphere (photos and in person), weathering on the car, era, etc.  I hope it goes without saying, we've done our homework and presented a color to the best of our abilities with all research considered.

Here is a very quick picture of a production model and you can see the difference in color.  More photos will be posted on our website, to replace the current pre-production model images.

It is much more than "slightly" frustrating.  People always should wait until having a model in hand instead of commenting based on pre-production photos of pilot or advertising samples.

Yeah, so we're stuck with them and you get your money.

Offer a money back guarantee. That would eliminate a lot of it.

I'll rephrase:  People always should wait until having a model in hand instead of posting non-constructive vicious comments based on pre-production photos of pilot or advertising samples.  Constructive comments are welcome.  Hostile character assassination and fear/rumor mongering based on assumptions rather than facts are not.

Pay up-front prior to the model being produced.

We can go back and forth on impractical requests all day.

No need as long as long as it's agreed that these requests are impractial.
