The "super shock control" is the as built (1974). In the early 80s this was altered to the red without the "super" -don't know much beyond that.

Are these appropriate for BN and/or BNSF?    Any relevant patches or repaints?

Yep - several examples, including a power bar. Many of these are likely to be released by BLMA:

For someone who models the early 90s, would all 4 schemes be appropriate, or all but the spartan?

Red ones were still around in the 90s intermixed with the brown repaints.

Well, mine made it around the layout without major mishap today.  Which is good, because with those exquisite details on the ends  I was really afraid of them taking a spill!

I have to say that 'in hand' the brown looks more like the MBK photo.  Then again, pictures of similar cars from the '90s seem to show them much darker than they are nowadays.

Craig, I have about 15 of you BX-166 cars so far in various paint schemes and I think they are magnificent. I have more on the way from MBK.

Thanks Gene and Guys!  I'm really proud of this release for a number of reasons.  Looking back, it's safe to say we've come a long way in this scale.

More than anything, I look forward to photos of these cars rolling around layouts.  Thanks for the support!

Craig... why man why? Why did you make the PD hopper the current version? I really want the old trinity PD5000 for my Hostess Cake train.

Not that I won't buy the hopper... I just won't buy a whole fleet of them ;)

BTW, I really like this box. Great job.

If I'm lucky I'll have a chance at a few more...

Looking back, it's safe to say we've come a long way in this scale.

I know this sounds like a shameless kiss-up, but the unvarnished truth is that BLMA is one of the key reasons why I am still in N scale today.  The product quality is terrific and it sure is nice to be able to buy cars with body-mount couplers that run at a proto ride height (which was definitely a minority case before the BLMA came on the scene).  Thanks for raising the bar for all of us.
