Back in the day, you could request those schedules and they would send you one. Then you could pay for a subscription and get the updates as they were released. I think they stopped that around 1990 as that’s the last update I have and I never bothered to get any more.
It was amazing what they would send out if you asked for it. Like I asked for and received locomotive assignment lists – They sent one sorted by locomotive and another sort by location. Nice snapshot of what was based where at a point in time including stored power. They used to send out neat little pocket locomotive roster data books too. Again, by 1990 they stopped most of that as well - at least as far as general requests. I remember someone telling me they didn't have the staff to continue doing that kind of stuff any longer.
However, there were certain requests they would still fulfill. As a Reading fan and using my RCT&HS acquisitions committee label, in 1991 I asked for a list of all former Reading equipment and received an itemized report of every car whether it had RDG or CR reporting marks, built date, CR class, where it was, and when it last moved. Cool stuff.
