basically he paints the whole structure the mortar color then dry brushes the brick color on with two or three layers and textures,

I was thinking of spraying  the area with mortar color and masking it off with pin striping tape and shooting brick over it.

Sadly, Golden is the brand name. Just a simple titanium buff :(

But in other news, I've taken extreme steps as to ruining not just one car, but a pair or cars!

Just some black wash:





I feel this is a bit much and I think aside from cleaning up some of the puddle spots, I need to remove more of the wash to lighten up the car.

Josh,

You should try to find photos of the prototype to work from, so that you don't second-guess yourself after finishing a weathering session.  National Packing was fairly visible in the 1960s, so photos should be readily accessible in any of the various books on ice reefers that have been published.

Was this wash mostly black?   You can also mix up a less intense grime color using black/white/raw umber.

The streaking look really good -- nice and straight.

Due to the upcoming BLI onslaught on my wallet, I'm limited to free pictures on the internet.
Of a photo I found, it looked more like black than any Browns mixed in. I usually do mix in a little brown but didn't this time. I called it a night to let the paint dry more so I can be precise about it.

Still a WIP and leaning adventure. And thanks for the feedback- it is much appreciated!

I do want to make it clear that I hadn't seen any reefers look like this in my limited research, either and was not going for how it turned out.
I think most of the time we just see the end result of weathering. I want to document the struggle along the way and think this is a great example.

I like the 455 car. Looks like it was road hard and put away wet. What paint are you using for your wash?
