MTL heavyweight baggage car

We are tooling up the Mail Baggage at the moment and the design for the 3 door Horse Car is just about finished.  Good year for us Head End Car Enthusiasts.

Joe, any considerations given to doing the SP car in the two tone gray scheme?  I would expect the more complex paint to drive the price up a few dollars but is gladly pay it!  These cars were common in both daylight and the TTG paint schemes in the 50's.

Actually I think it is based on the CB&Q "MB-19" through MB-21" classes, "MB-19" 1915 - 1919 series, "MB-20" 1920 - 1928 series and "MB21" 1929 - 1934 series...

It is worth noting that the model will not be all that close to the "MB-22" class that Mark linked too (CB&Q 1945), which was also the class used by subsidiaries C&S and FW&D...

They will be what I like to call a "reasonable stand-in" for such a prototype but if you dig deeper into the details of the two cars you will find a number of differences, especially so in the splice plate area where N&W preferred, like the PRR, to have three vertical rows of rivets, not two as you find in most other prototypes (can be seen fairly closely in the shot of N&W 1206 on the baggage end of the car), while not all that good of a match the MT model would be "close enough" for most modeler's desires (still would need M&R Model's sides to do more unique ATSF and SP cars).  'course too, if someone wanted a closer model they could sand down the sides and apply Archer Surface Transfer rivets for a better match.

Like the RPO, the roof tooling appears to have a side pull (slide) in the mold so that there can be undercuts in the roof vents, and the hint of the seam along the vertical face of the clearstory.  The sleepers and coaches haven't had this, and the result is blocks instead of roof vents in a simple two part mold.

It's going to be a shame to shave those vents off of the roofs for the ATSF 70' builds (I'll keep them on the 'dedicated' Erie cars, of course!)
Again, VERY excited  to be seeing these come to fruition...Microtrains is REALLY helping us with the heavyweights!!!!!!

Finally a source for the angled roof vents that seem so prevalent with eastern and southeastern head-end cars!!!  I'll definitely will be needing some roofs!!!

OK, all us ATSF modelers need to shave those roof vents very carefully, and send them to Jerry.

Will undecorated cars be available early in the process, or do I need to lay in a couple bottles of paint stripper? (Plus, of course, a couple in Erie two tone)  Aside from the potential these have for M&R sides, they just LOOK like baggage cars, and will look good in a whole lot of paint schemes with a little detail work.

Very happy to see all this progress.
