Lots of work going on at the club layout over the last few weeks.Photos taken today.

I have been working on the roads some more.

Another member has been working on the hills scene. There will be a view block just right of the hills.

Alex the owner of the hobby shop has been working on his refinery.

More photos can been seen on the blog. http://panthersubdivision.blogspot.ca/

I've seen crossings made like the title picture, but never in the middle of a paved area.  Any idea why it was done that way?  It looks like all of the blocks went in at the same time, so it probably isn't an old crossing that was paved around.

Outstanding road work there and the refinery is pretty darn nice too.  Any idea what kit the ship is built from?

As for me, it's been awhile since I posted anything (done plenty of work though), although I've been pretty busy with travel due to work requirements.  Had a few moments (actually a deadline) to knock out my brother's Xmas present before I left for the states last week.   Used one of Reese's SD40-3 cabs to build this CSX SD40-3 (printed by Shapeway's).  Also used his SD60E cab for NS 6920, but wasn't 100% happy with my build on that one, mostly due to the decals.

Also did a pair of SD38-2's from Mark 4 Design shells (understand he's closed up shop now due to his printer breaking  :( ):

And finally, some Wheeling and Lake Erie oddball SD40-2's:

Cheers,
Brian

Couple more downtown Bel-Aire pics.I think I'be just about got it the way I want it to look.Except for the streets which for lack of a better word SUCK!

I really like Reese's -3 cab and my next loco project will be a GP38-3 using this cab and possibly a GP40-3. :D

Wow Jeff; those downtown roads are outstanding; really well done! Can't wait until I am able to come to Toronto and wander back to see the progress in person... keep Alex working on the refinery too....LOL
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Thanks Brian and Mike.

Brian the ship is 2 1/130 scale model that was bashed to make it longer. The front of one and the back of the other were cut off. Here is a Pic of the box and some more Pics of the ship.

With N-Scale people you can't tell it is 1/130. The railings are n-scale as are some other parts.

Here you can see the seam where the 2 kits were glued.

Echoing Mike...beautiful roads Jeff!

I have been slowly adding details to the Pulp Mill scene.  I had long assumed that the end dump chip gons that were sent to the mill were lifted on a hydraulic "tipper" however recent information seems to indicate they used a front end loader driven into the gons.  No one is absolutely certain  which is surprisingly because the mill still is operating (but now without rail wood chip service for many years).

So I found a photo on the web of a small unloading operation and went with that.

Here are the elements roughed in and set in place.  Much finishing of the front end unloader, and "grizzly" to go but you get the drift I hope...

Have a great weekend!

Looks like GHQ item I build a while ago for a friend's layout.

It seems to be discontinued (here is the still-available log loader version http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/53014.html ), but the front end loader shoudl still be availabel at some hobby shops or on eBay.

Do the Mark 4 shells need to be soaked in bestine? I have a EJ&E 38-2 to complete one of these days, I have only looked at the shell a couple of times, but seems pretty flexible (and translucent!).

I've never had to do that with his shells.  Only washed them with soap and water to remove excess oil caused by my handling before painting.

Cheers,
Brian

No, totally unrelated to the bestine discussion.

Thank you!  It is a GHQ log loader with a scratched bucket made of styrene.  I am looking forward to painting it up while on holidays.
