Ok, I'm gonna be a jerk.

I think you should do the real Hagerstown a bit more justice. I love the stub tracks where power hangs out, and the underpass is such a key feature of that location, that it just won't be Hagerstown without it all.

I actually have some models of the overpass itself from Lee's layout. I had promised them to @sizemore , but he might be convinced to give them up to a good home.

That's between you and Sizemore.  It doesn't matter to me either way.

But now I'm sitting here looking at Google maps and seeing how the tracks are, I could put that in there.  I can take out the coupling of tracks and locomotive building, seeing as there is none in Hagerstown, flip the direction and have at least 2-3 engine ready tracks.  I guess they just have a fuel truck around to fill up locomotives ?? I also see the Lowe's flatbed distribution center on the west end of yard.  I could fit that in if I flipped the switch from the end of the yard.

I added spur for Maryland Metals as afterthought, so that can disappear as well.  Thanks for the ideas, I think  :D

Lol, that's what we're here for!

Thanks to your info, I discovered the charm of that line, so I'm looking forward to your best rendition of it. If I get to prod you along to it, so much the better!

I'm not sure if I ever posted the link to the pictures from that trip, so here they are:

No you never did !  I did find them some how though thru one of your links.

Not sure if you know about it or what your schedule is, but Mainline Hobby holds an open house/area layout tour every year.  It's self guided, you pick up the booklet at the store and can plan from there.  This year it is Saturday and Sunday, Sept 19/20 .  I have decided to join in the fun, so you could stop by and view progress yourself.  There is also a sale on everything at the store, I believe another 10% off

Brian Wolfe, the owner, lives across the street a couple houses down.  He models in HO, Western Maryland from Hagerstown to York, and has a model of the underpass too !  Here are some pictures from someone who did the open house a couple years ago

This might get me banned from TRW and out of the running for the underpass, but I don't like bacon  :o :o :o :scared:  No worries about the Dark side here

It's Mainline Hobby Supply.  Located in Blue Ridge Summit, PA on Rt 16 at the top of the mountain, CSX crosses Rt 16 right down the street and Maryland Midland interchanges with CSX just behind store at Highfield.  www.mainlinehobby.net  Layouts are generally in a 20-25 mile radius, in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, and York county in PA, and Washington, Frederick County in MD.  Usually 20-25 layouts open, both clubs and private homeowners.  From Z scale to garden layouts have been represented before.

I know about the Mainline open house. Every year I try to check it out. Every year, life conspires against me.

However, this time I put it in my calendar before anything else so it might actually happen!

I'd love to see it in person.

Glad you dig the pics.

I printed name plates for switching locations today.  Simply printed on paper and laminated.

You'll need an adequate model of YD (the big WM vintage office building) that sits between the spur tracks and the yard throat.  You've got room for it, and it would be an awesome (and I would think relatively straightforward) scratch build.

It, along with the Burhans Blvd. underpass, would give you an unmistakable location identifier.

Also, by including the lead that the train in the photo sits on, you would add your connection to the N&W's Vardo Yard to add some southern fried flavor to your operations.

I've been wondering when you would chime in Lee  :D

I am not much of a scratch builder, that's why my paper mill area still sits with pieces of buildings sitting everywhere.  Of course, if I plan to do the Hanover Sub, I better get over that pretty quick .  I'm hoping this layout is just a place holder until I can take over half of my garage if and when I enclose said garage and build a new one that is level with the house instead of under it.    Funny thing is, I just measured the area and it comes out as almost the same size, 12' x 21 ' .  I'm going to ask Mr. Sprague if he can do a plan for the area with new benchwork, that he can do what he wants to do instead of sticking to existing pre-built benchwork.

I measured the area where the YD can go, it is roughly 4 " deep.  I have a Western Maryland boxcar, and a rusty Reading boxcar, both MT and a Conrail caboose sitting on the spur right now.  Can be used as a history lesson for the time being.  As for a southern influence, I see an NS unit on the sub every once in a while, so it's here :)  I have a couple NS units to mix in the float, but I've also realized after getting another loco from another forum   I may have to go thru and get rid of some power.  Plus I need to pick up at least 2-3 WM units for my dual era to pull my WM coal train into the paper mill.
