Very nice.

You may be interested to know that the 500 series number was the last "real" Western Maryland numbering applied to a new order of diesels.  They were actually originally ordered as GP30s, but were switched to GP35s when they were introduced in late 1964.  The 3500 series numbers were applied after 1967 when Chessie the Knife started to exert its authority over the WM following a decision by the ICC to let the C&O/B&O begin voting a long-dormant block of non-voting stock the B&O had held in the WM since the 1920s.

Anyway, if you go to Cumberland and see the ex Con GP30 there that wears WM speedlettering and a 500 series number, that's the story that justifies its existence...

As such, a GP35 numbered in the 500 series would not have appeared in any photos along side a Chessie engine.  Nor should it.  Ever.  Mostly because there's a Chessie engine in the picture.  Which is an abomination against all that is holy.

Here endeth the Epistle.

And today I received my Zephyr back from Digitrax Repair.  Invoice had note on it to "prevent shorting out the programming track, as that is what caused the issues".  I'm not certain how that would have happened, I've had the same setup for over a year and never had an issue.  Either way, I've got all I need for my layout again.   :D :D

I blame the Chessie engines.  But then, I always do.

Well, it was a CSX locomotive I was trying to program at the time.  Though I believe it was of Seaboard System heritage....

I got my laptop hooked up to layout via a Digitrax PR3 and JMRI today.  Here is a shot of my work area.  The Zephyr is not hooked in yet, debating what I want to do with it.

@Ed Kapuscinski , you can see I used your idea of the on off button to kill all power to layout/related equipment with the power strip.

I gave the layout a shakedown run tonight using my new DCC hookup.  I pulled cars from the yard to build D797 (Hagerstown to Hanover), parked yard power, pulled 2 CW40-8's from the power tracks and did all the switching heading eastbound.  On my version of the sub, D797 will actually travel from Hagerstown to Baltimore because I do not have the Hanover yard/terminal modeled do to space limitations.  As D797 pulled into staging, I pulled a transfer/manifest from Cumberland into Hagerstown to sort at a later time, and ran light power into Spring Grove.  I used my phone using the Engine Driver app as a throttle.  I am still in awe at how this works.  I ran into two problems 1) I had my laptop to go to sleep after 20-30 minutes of inactivity, so when it went to sleep, JMRI lost connection with my phone and I did not have control of train until I realized what happened.  2) Using the Engine Driver app, speed is controlled by a sliding scale.  While switching Ag-Com, I was setting cars into the siding and went to stop train and the slider went in the other direction, so I shoved the last car off the track and across the road at the end.  But, I just said to myself "CSX did the same thing a few years ago at this location."  I wish I could find pictures but a crew switching AgCom somehow shoved two cars thru the buffer at end of the siding and across Granite Station Rd, which the end of siding butts up against.  Another case of art imitating life

This is why I use the volume keys rather than the slide to control the throttle when using my cell phone on Engine Driver.
