I made good progress on my fleet of MLW m630s this week:

If you cut out the spot under the radiator as I did, then I suggest that you are careful with your Dremel cutter so as to not slip and cut through the side of the shell. How do I know? Look for the white filler styrene in the corner. Sheesh.

I'm also amazed how quickly you arrived at a workign layout (of this size)!  And not just hardware, but software too.  Are you by any chance retired with lots of spare time at your disposal?    If not, I'm even more amazed.

Nice to see D&H modeled all the way across the big pond.  I live in the Boston area and I remember seeing the gray/blue D&H units in the early 80s (sometimes mixed in with B&M locos).

It's all electrical work on the Seaboard Central this weekend.  I've finally quit procrastinating and have started wiring the layout correctly.  I ripped out the existing wiring (what little there was) and moved the command station.  I ran new bus wires and have started dropping feeders.

Today (Saturday) my sons and I joined the good fellows with the FreeMo-N group from the bay area for some fun on our layout setup for the Roseville International Railfair (we'll be there again on Sunday). Here are a few photos of today's fun.

Just needing some decals, final details and light weathering.

Nope, not retired at all and still 15 to 20 years off that point. In terms of build, I just have a drive and I like to get things done. I go out to the shed 1 or 2 nights a week for a few hours once the kids are in bed and toil away.

The JMRI panel is very basic compared to where it will be in the future with a full CTC dispacthers panel.

My next task is to put the fascia on and then plan the car cards.

Sort of train related:
Sump pump failed and the backup's battery died on Thursday. The main pump failed due to a rust build up in the tank. The secondary pump failed due to old battery. Emergency tech and new pump installed cost $650. Add another $130 for a new marine battery for the backup. No water leaked... the alarms did their job. I plan to add a high amp power supply and switch so I can run the backup pump on grid without requiring the battery in case of another failure. The pump swap-out is not hard and I may just buy a backup that I can install on my own incase of a future failure.

So here is how things stand: sheetrock on basement is waiting for plumber to finish the rough in on the new second floor bathroom. Then, train boxes get moved to the basement while my former office gets turned into a den. Finally, after everything is moved around I can finish the floor, paint the walls and start building the railroad.

Provided the pumps keep working.

I installed a water powered backup pump. Cost is about $300, it doesn't use a battery so it will keep working through extended power outages.

Very nicely done Steve. Black is a difficult colour to shoot and get a perfect finish. You nailed it. How did you do your silver window frames?  I need to do black ones on my two 8-40CMs and I can only think if using a very fine tipped paint or Sharpie pen if they even exist.
