Loksound Select Micro in GP9 (Thank You John Colombo)

I just want to thank John Colombo for his excellent work and tutorials on installing sound in N scale diesels. I recently finished installing a decoder in an Atlas GP9 and can't be more happy. The sound is amazing. About the only thing I did different was not to drill holes in the shell. I've already ordered an Alco 244 LokSound decoder for my RS3. Can hardly wait to get that installed when it gets here. I hope to have it ready for Trainfest Nov 8th and 9th in Milwaukee.

Please forgive the crude video.

Sounds great. Almost a little too loud!

What is really amazing is the quality of the Loksound horn as well as the clarity of everything else.

I still have to tackle a Loksound installation in an FVM GEVO per John' guidance.

That N scale horn sounds better than the Tsunami I had in my Intermountain HO ES44's with upgraded speakers.

That sounds so good. Even on my phone. I have MRC and Digitrax sound decoders in a couple of other locos. I can already tell how much better that it is. It's worth saving for.

Yes, I agree. It's the factory default setting (it can even go a little louder) but works well at Train Shows. I will dial it down for home use!

Sounds really good in the vid. Is that the  "EMD 16-567C/D "F-unit/Geep"?  How do you like the engine notching sounds?

Well done Bill - sounds just like my ESU-equipped and Colombo-ized GP-9!

I have left mine at the factory volume so that it can be heard at train shows; it is not too loud at home but there is always the option of dialing it down at a later date.

Is there a master thread for these loc sound installs?

Here the one for FVM Gevo install:

https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=31587.0

Pretty straight forward, only scary part was shaving the sides with a dremel on the slowest speed and light passes so as to not heat the plastic and warp it.

Also agree, do not drill holes, I think it sounds better w/o (makes it like a sound chamber)

It's hiding in the "Best of" section

Updated Techniques for Sound in N-scale Diesels

A list of John's LokSound installs is at the end of the first post.

Don't forget to Bookmark it (New-ish feature) so you don't lose it.
