Hmm... worthless? Have
you priced ground chuck
lately...?

Yea, but who makes sausage from ground chuck?

Interesting thread. Never expected 12 pages on an old wooden reefer.

Huh?  It is a brand new reefer, never before done in N scale!  People just want to make make sure it is perfect.  ;)

I would love to have that car.  It's in my top 7-8 cars needed for Waterloo.

Jason

It would be nice.  Except, isn't it a Swift-specific prototype?  If not, there weren't too many owners of 36' steel meat reefers.  Definitely not enough to justify a mass-market injection-molded plastic model.

Probably, but I think I did run across one other 36' steel reefer (Wilson maybe?) when I was looking through all my reefer pictures.

Swift also had a 40' mechanical I'd rather have over this one for which I've found at least three reporting marks for.  If I ever get to PA, I'm going to try and get measurements for it.

At this point my future in the hobby is about 80% dependent on 3D printing.

Old as in prototype age.

huh? (re: Swift reefers photo) I thought ice reefers were never "aired out". Why all the open hatches? Is this a scrap yard?

Is this a scrap yard?

The Color Guide says it's a small storage and servicing yard in Sioux City with the front two tracks probably for servicing.  But like all MS books, take the info with a bit of caution.

I think they were talking about produce reefers.  I would guess meat reefers probably did need to be aired out.

I'd say they are being aired out, or cleaned.  Note the hinged doors are wide open on most of those open-hatch cars in the photo.

They are probably being cleaned or serviced. Also note the 2 tankcars mixed in the bunch. They are probably filled with water for cleaning or maybe brine mix.

Um, MT makes a 40'  metal reefer with roof hatches.  It is not an exact match to that car though, but it seems to be a simpler solution than converting a PS1 boxcar.

Yes Jason there is; albeit in poor condition. It's in the Morning Sun Refrigerated Car Book. We looked at it but couldn't find out a lot about it - we're looking at it for a future collector pack.

I found the car I was thinking of even after forgetting I was looking for it.  :)

There's a wood car in silver paint on page 10 of Classic Freight Cars the Series Vol. 3.

I'll probably end up buying the ones that are correct for 1943-1945 since I'm trying to draw my focus into just the war years.

Where in PA?  You tell me what measurements you need and I might be able to get up there.
