It depends on how it is presented. If it is constructive and civil, then there is no problem. If it is presented in a model-bashing or condesending manner, it tends to get dismissed. And if the criticism is delivered as an absolute when the manufacturer has hard evidence to the contrary, or if an opinion on marketing strategy is presented as fact, it tends to be dismissed.

It's all in the presentation.

Just a word from the admin.

  • I've been working behind the scenes making sure this thread doesn't go out of control.  For the most part, the criticisms presented here are fair and not personal. I said for the most part.
  • In the future, I'm going to lock manufacturer-started product announcement threads.  If people want to comment on perceived shortcomings or offer praise, they can start an adjacent comment thread.
  • Until I'm told otherwise, I'm operating under the assumption that manufacturers want the kind of feedback found in this thread.  I welcome this minute criticism myself, as Ed N. and Richie gave me in regards to my recent weathering projects. In fact, this is kind of what the Railwire is all about, and I would have never progressed in my weathering if it wasn't for the constant feedback here.

Late to the party, as usual.  I feel somewhat vindicated with the announcement that the ladders are molded on.  I had commented about the add-on ladders and grabs on Intermountain cars being clunky for years, and that the added parts do little for the modeler other than drive up the price of manufacturing.

Bryan's example of the ESM car shows demonstrably that a few very simple tricks of the eye makes for a much more realistic model. 

I shall crawl back under my rock now.

I'm not even sure there is a GARX 37' in that sea of red. Many different proto :tommann: types, just liked the photo.  :P
