Question about MDC/Roundhouse PS Waffle Side Box Car

I'm trying to find out if this type car was around in 1971:

http://www.spookshow.net/freight/mdc50waffle.html

Spookshow's web site says it was first build in the early 1970s. I need more specific info.

Hmm... don't look at me...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

I wasn't looking specifically for that L&N box car. I'm interested in whether the car STYLE I showed (with sliding doors, not plug doors) was around in 1971.

not some lowly monkey...

The first link shows a car with a plug door. Not useful.

The second link shows this:

http://www.railcarphotos.com/pix/71/LN%20114466_W%20Colton%20CA_Steven%20Vincent_1976-12-12_71084.jpg

and lists a build date in 1970, so that's close enough. Thank you.

The third link only has two pages, and the only photo available is on page one, taken by Paul Graf of (apparently) a Russian locomotive (???). I can't figure out why you said it was probably the most helpful of the links.

Hmm... what matters is
that Kiz got his answer...

Every year this question comes up, is there a prototype for the MDC N/HO 50' waffle side? General consensuses is no.
Try googling your question in Google search: MDC 50' waffle side boxcar.  The following search results, yes they refer to the HO car which is an 1/87 scale version of n scale car.

No guarantee of a suitable answer, but a cool picture of a waffle side.

I think this is a pretty close representation of the MDC car.  April 1969 build date.

ends well...

Jim Eager in the old RMJ magazines matched a lot of these MDC cars to real prototypes as well.

I think the question that comes up once a year is "is there are prototype for the MDC High Side Plug Door Boxcar",
and the answer is no.

Off topic, but I wish Athearn would bring the MDC cars back.  Atlas is doing quite well with their Trainman line, so there is a market for less-than-superdetailed models, and the boxcars especially aren't available from anyone else.  They already have modern trucks with truck-mounted McHenry couplers, so they wouldn't even have to modify the floors.

But can we at least have them based on real cars?

The second picture has a build date of 11-74.

The Family Lines roads are the only ones that owned them, as far as I know.  There were also plug door and double door variants.  They're all floating around in CSX paint now.

Wazzou and Chessie system fan

Great finds.  I am curious how you search for rolling stock. If you don't know builder or reporting marks how did you find these examples.  Is there a reference for freight car classification? I am guilty of not using my google foo to look up these answer.
