Here is the lone Pennsy prototype model.  8)

Haha.  The box insert says Conrail since I figured you'd strip it one day and paint it for Conrail.
If you want a Pennsy insert, let me know and I'll send you one.

My Kumata brass project is killing me, so if anyone is interested in the Conrail unit, PM me.

Hi Max,

Yeah, they were one of the original purchasers, I think.

Here is a list of a lot of T-6s.  They have gotten around.

One of the ones I really thought about building with the GHQ kit was an Arkansas & Missouri T-6.

And this one is pretty catchy.

As well as the GE switcher.

And Conrad Yelvington picked up a used one too.

Nah, I'm keeping it Pennsy.  After turning your Oro-Dam U25C into a fallen flag, I figure I hit my quota long ago on redressing your kitbashed units.  8)

So the GHQ casting is the N&W version.  Well, crap. How different was it from the PRR version?  I have 3 Arnold S2's that will become surplus when the Atlas S2 get here.  Can the GHQ casting be easily modified back?

The Atlas S2 will have a metal body too or I'd say wait for that.  Hmmm.

John.

It is not all that different.

The number one thing that N&W had that was different was the boxy thing on the roof at the cab.

You can see it here.  That bump on the hood roof not far from the horn.

The other more minor difference was grills and screens on hood doors.
N&W tended to use boxy pieces with louvers.
Pennsy used screens that were flat with the door.

Here is an interesting photo.
Both are T-6s on the A&M.
One came from N&W and the other came from Pennsy.
You can see the filters/screens are different, but not that big a deal.
And the Pennsy unit would not have that bump on the roof.

Differences are minor.

So you could take the N&W shell and grind off the bump at the roof.
It is made of pewter, so it is soft.
You would just have to go slow so as not to damage anything.

There's a Arkansas & Missouri video showing one of their T-6 switchers working hard.  After seeing that, I just had to have one.  NWSL was still selling wheelsets for these a couple months ago.  I have a couple Arnold S2's in various conditions and conceivably I could convert them whenever the new Atlas switcher shows up.

Okay. I looked at a bunch of pictures but missed that.

I noticed the difference in grills and screens.  Also the PRR units started out with friction journal trucks instead of roller bearing (I haven't looked in my Withers books but I'm sure they say what kind of truck).  But I missed that the bump in front of the cap was missing.  That's not so bad then.  I might be able to handle it.

Thanks Ron!!!
