Weekend Update 9/21/14

My modelling this week was curtailed by:

a/ lack of decals due to inept purchasing by me
b/ lack of time due to shipping 1,300 HO scale GMD-1's and a thousand and a half HO scale park cars.....
c/ being part of the illustrious team that shipped our booth, modules and samples to arrive in Edmonton for the Great Edmonton Train Show for Monday instead of Friday, thus leaving Jason and Bill with a big empty table and their sparkling personalities to entertain the masses.... have no idea how we pulled this off....

An exciting day on the Fort Nelson subdivision as the photo backdrop expansion on the upper deck is prepped for installation, nearly 2 years after the original main backdrop section was installed.  This section is 10.5 feet long.   When completed I will commence the same procedure on the lower deck.

Found some time to finish off a couple of freight cars.  I started with a stock Atlas PS-1 deco'd for New Haven and created the "DF" variation, and swapped in the proper ASF A-3 trucks. 



I started with an Athearn GSC flatcar deco'd for Pennsy, but I didn't like the paint color or the lettering so I stripped and repainted it.  Since it was stripped, I added end sills, end grab irons and body-mounted couplers.  I made decals based on the original Athearn artwork that I extracted from their product announcement PDF, but resized them properly and modified some of the data.  The replacement laser-cut wood deck was stained and slightly weathered, since this represents a freshly-painted car.

Been working on my SP DS-121 H12-44. Minitrix with Bachmann NW-2 mechanism. This is a reshopping. I painted this unit quite a while ago.
Added Nose grabs, replaced the cab shades, added wind deflectors, train line air hoses and lift bars. Renumbered her to a correct road number for the class. Next is detail painting. Adding the lights. and then some weathering.

Been doing some scenery putting grout down for dirt and also making wire trees, I also am back to working on a totally scratchbuilt truss bridge currently soldering together columns made from 1/32" x 1/8" brass flat bar with 2 small spacer pieces at each end of 3/64" brass square bar. When done these will be placed in the main chords and when all soldering is done will receive GMM 18" wide bracing.
