Cutting Edge Scale Models RS36 Conversion Kits

Here at Cutting Edge Scale Models we have been releasing some new N Scale RS36 conversion kits to match various prototypes. So far we have released 3 variations, and we have a few more to go in the near future.

These kits fit on the Atlas or Atlas/Kato RS11, and some will require modification to the frame, shell, or handrails.

The first version has a high nose, no steam generator, a tall smokestack, dynamic brakes, and louvered side vents to match OMID #408 and other units.

Special thanks to Andrew Kyle for this image of a primed RS36 shell with a little bit of sanding needed to finish things off.

Our second variation has a high nose, steam generator, no dynamic brakes, and chicken wire side vents to match nickel plate passenger units. Below is a rendering of the model, which requires modeler-installed screens on the side to finish.

Our third and final version for now is a low nose version with dynamic brakes and louvered side vents. This version uses the standard RS11 cab, but with windows and numberboards included in the model.

We will post more photos as we get more photos of these models.

Happy Modeling!

I don't really know about that. the RS27 would be a huge variation, and I have some other locomotives almost ready to be announced. I will put it on the list of future product ideas. Thanks!

Looks like just the ticket to get a model of LAL 418  http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1461931

I can see a number of RS-11 frames in my future.

Dave, did you ever get my PM?
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

OK you have my attention..!
Im a D&H man and have been waiting for Atlas to do a RS11/RS36 low nose.

I have a few questions..
Can you show us a picture of the completed model?
Im interested to see how the number board fits on a stock cab from Atlas?
Also I see on your shapeways page that you also just do the low nose section. Does this also come with the number boards? Any more info on the nose section? Are they specifically for the D&H units?
Is the front window part of the new body as it seems to have 2 windows and not 1 long wide one like the D&H units?
Im interested to understand how this all fits together.

Looking forward to your updates...

I do not have any completed pics, however I will have some customer photos sometime soon. The numberboards get glued on then filed to the shape of the roof.  The low nose is a generic component for any RS series locomotive. They have marker lights and a hole for the brake wheel. The front window section currently has 2 windows, but if you want one it is easy to knock out the divider. I put it there for versatility. The atlas cab snaps on, and the number board piece gets glued on, so it has a very nice finished appearance without too much work.

I hope I answered all of your questions, if you have more feel free to contact me.

Happy Modeling!

Any chance for a NYC/PC/CR/CNW RS-32!?!

I know the differences are slight.

How are these being sold?

These shells are being sold as 3D printed items on shapeways and will require assembly by the modeler, however I do offer assembly service if required.

No, not yet. At this point I am waiting on customers to get their models and construct the finished unit, give it a week or so.

David,
OK thanks.
Do you have any pictures of the headlight assembly that comes with the shell?
Also, does the headlight assembly come with the 2 Pack - ALCO RS Series Low Nose?

The light assembly is from the Atlas RS11 shell. I am not capable of printing something translucent like that yet.

David,
Sorry.. I mis typed.
Per above you mention a number board for the low nose unit.
I assume this number board is for use with the Atlas Cab from a high nose RS11.

Im looking to reuse the long hood and cab from a New Atlas RS11. Im looking to order just the low nose section and am wondering if that has the number boards with it?
Alternatively, order the low nose complete shell and just use the parts I need from it including the number boards.
Do you have a picture of the number boards that you mention?

The numberboards are just a basic wedge with headlights, they are not currently offered with the short hoods. They do not include numberboards, either.
