Finally started to make my original idea come to fruition. Just need to do some more shaving to keep the boiler height down with the motor in. I never knew this bash would be so easy when this first popped in my head. The cab domes and tender are the only somewhat difficult parts. Everything else to make this work was just grinding on the mech and boiler.

What are you using for the tender?

It's one I built as a coal tender in 2008 to go behind an fef1 when I did that custom fef boiler out of a cc s2 boiler.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] ]It's almost time for paint! Just a little bit of piping left to add for the sanders. The tender is coming out very nicely. I chopped up a concor centipede tender and added a shortened kato gs4 oil bunker. To do the conical rear of the tender,  I'll be turning a piece of styrene. Overall this is coming together very nicely and its such an easy kitbash!

The only Apple product I have is my bnsf company phone! I use android otherwise. The funny thing is the top image I rotated and saved the picture 90* counterclockwise of the original and posted both pictures. As you can see that idea didn't fix it!  Lol

Drasko, the engine looks good, I like the progress so far! Great idea to use the EM1 shell as a start!
The tender will be a challenge (no pun intended). The early tenders had a half round lower half, with the radius starting at the center in the style of traditional Vandies, whereas the centipedes did not. I found this unusual high level photo that you might find useful to help you build and detail it.
Best, Otto

Thanks Otto. Besides a shrink casting, the best I could do so far was to use the centipede. Great picture btw. Looks like I need to reshape the bottom section of the tender now. The biggest issue thus far is the factory motor makes the boiler sit too high no matter how much you shave things. I'm going to have to find a can motor that will allow things to sit just how they are now.
