Fantastic, Mark.  Once you start using one of these machines you never look back.  Mine has been hard at work on B&O and CSX passenger car sides, cabooses and steam engine tenders.  I wouldn't have attempted any of these projects without it.  The sky's the limit!

Gave the cutter a rest tonight and pulled out the tweezers for some fine detailing.  I think we're almost ready for paint!

Look at the shinny brand new elevator!  So uh... now what?  How do I continue the painting effort to make this thing look old and weathered?   :scared:

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I think Mark has jumped the gun on the painting. I was hoping to see the simulated corrugated sheet metal that covers most of the structure. Also, will there be windows and doors?

I don't want to give you the wrong impression Mark, I think it's great to be able to whip up structures in a short time but so far all I see is a mock-up level model. Your cut-outs hold a considerable amount of possibility. I would encourage you to explore ways to simulate the siding. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who was expecting to see that.

My thoughts are to simulate any remaining texture with paint.  The prototype appears to be flat panels, not corrugated.  My current plan is to draw out the panel lines with pencil after weathering and seal with dull coat.  Does that sound viable?  Any other ideas or recommendations?

Typical of most grain elevator structures this one is indeed covered with corrugated metal panels. If you take a closer look at the second photo you originally posted, you can barely make out the vertical lines of corrugations in the sheathing. As a matter of fact all buildings in the complex (except the vertical storage) are sheathed with the same corrugated metal, including the quonset-style structure.

I have yet to see any large structure (of this nature) that has been sheathed with flat sheet metal.

If I'm not mistaken, these sheets appear to be 4'x 8'. If someone else knows better please chime in.

I pulled it up on Google street view and indeed it is very fine corrugate.  This would be impossible to detail on plain styrene, so I don't think there's anything I can do to fix it beside implying it with paint/weathering. 

Painting is my weak point, but I think it's off to a good start and I think I can pull it off.  Clearly I'll have to mask and spray the dark gray.  I'm very happy with the rust on the roofs.
