As I stated on your Facebook post — use Bestine and not Goo Gone. You can search Railwire for the term "Bestine" to see reasons and results. Goo Gone is not a good option for delicate parts.
I here what you are saying about Bestine but sadly this is an impossible option for people that do not live in the US, I live in the UK. It is not a product that you can ship internationally as it is rather flammable. Goo Gone is not and I have used it on hundreds of models with not a single problem. It doesn’t distort, damage or warp any detail but brakes down the corn oil just the same as Bestine so it works for me. Of course for people that can get Bestine I here it is very good.
I started with Goo Gone before being advised to use Bestine. It worked okay for larger models. But it destroyed the window treatments on the White Tower, warped them beyond repair. Haven't touched Goo Gone since.Bestine is the brand name. Heptane, the actual material, should be available in some form in England. It's been in use a century or more. You just have to find the trade name for it there.I just checked — there is a ton of it available on eBay-UK and it's reasonably priced. Here's one:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131223522982
