So...  Based on this sample, I'm going to up my preorder from one to two.

Then I'm only 298 short of Penny's whole M1 roster (if you count the 201 M1 class along with the 100 M1a/b class and my kitbashed M1).

I believe I'm back from the brink of going Colorado HOn3 with this finally happening!

I believe I'm back from the brink of going Colorado HOn3 with this finally happening!

[threaddrift] @Dave Vollmer , I know where your head is on this.  I did the same with Class 1 railroading (RF&P or SBD) versus narrow gauge railroading (ET&WNC) years ago.  So, I also jumped scales a few times.  But, in the end, I really missed Class 1 railroad action and the satisfaction of long, fast trains and [relatively] modern rolling stock.  I would put money on it that if you went G and HOn3 (or even just HOn3), which likely would require packing the Juniata Division away, you'd be where I once was.  I recommend using the G scale to satisfy your narrow gauge itch.[/threaddrift]

Holy *****. I cannot BELIEVE this is really happening, but, then again Duke Nukem Forever finally came about too, so crazier things have happened.

Does anyone know if they're doing pre-war "early" versions? I really love the look of 1920s-1930s PRR steam. Much more so than the later era stuff.

The original announcement roughly a decade ago suggested they were doing some pre-facelift versions, at least based on the lettering schemes.  They were also going to do a basic DCC-ready version if each as well.

The current release is limited both in era (late PRR) and version (DC/DCC/sound).  I'm not complaining because they're perfect for me (even though the road numbers on the M1as they chose were all scrapped prior to July 1956, my timeframe).  A retrofit shouldn't be too hard.  You need to swap the headlight and steam generator, lower the footboard on the smokebox front, and add a step pilot.  Your lettering will need to change too.

Hopefully if we buy these in sufficient numbers, other eras and road numbers will follow.

Now I have a problem.  I pre ordered these so long ago from (I don't honestly remember) and when it looked like nothing but vaporware forgot all about it.  I reordered a couple more then it looked like it was finaly going to happen (I think).  I'm either going to get zero or more than I want and it's going to wipe out my train budget for the next year.
