So Joe, what's the scoop on the Nn3 Reefer?

I must not have been paying attention but I don't remember seeing anything about this car.  What can you @Shipsure tell us about it?  Is there a prototype?

Any more new Nn3 on it's way?

You're right it does.  If that's the case, I'm wondering if the artwork has been altered a bit to make the car appear shorter (in height) because it doesn't look like the regular proportions of a 40' reefer.  Maybe it's nothing more than the trucks trowing it off for me.   I'll still get one for my dad to put in his display case.

I think the tank car is shared between scales too.

The tank car is definitely a Z scale car used as Nn3.   It looks very odd in an Nn3 train, but then, so do the UTLX tanks that the D7RGW used on the prototype.  The only one I have ended up on a flatcar as part of a narrow gauge weed sprayer.

Considering Nn3 is not a part of MTL's product guide (unless you count the fact that they mention it in the Table of Contents as being on page 7 even though it doesn't appear n page 7), maybe MTL has no Nn3 plans.  http://www.micro-trains.com/PG.pdf   Doesn't anybody proofread anymore?

Historically, post the loss of the original NN3 cars (which I have several of)  some of the Z scale cars were used as stand ins for NN3.  Our Z wood side box, Tank car and the wood side Reefer have been used many times in the past and have done well.  The chances of anyone doing tooling for NN3 is remote these days and the feed back we get from the movers and shakers in the scale is to keep doing what we are doing.  More availability, more folks might move to NN3.  And for what it is worth, when I run my NN3 at shows, folks like seeing the variety and show interest in NN3.

Not to be pedantic.  Proof reading would be correcting spelling and grammar, as well  as making sure the message is understood. Its what should be done to all my post.  I believe you are questioning reading comprehension.

Can you elaborate on this Joe?  I seem to remember a MT line of Nn3 freight cars.

I think the molds broke a while ago for the Nn3 flat and gon.

If you are looking for reefers Willmodels has nice resin Nn3 reefer models.

EDIT: I don't see the reefers on his ebay page, maybe the reefers aren't a regular item.

Proofing, as you stated, includes identifying errors in messaging.  As I pointed out, listing HOn3 and Nn3 product offerings as being included in a document, where they aren't included, is an error in message; unless MTL wanted its message to invoke confusion.  Even if, as Joe seems to state, MTL's Nn3 product line is gone and its Z scale offerings stand in for it, that message is not clearly communicated and that should have been an error found in proofing.  Perhaps we, the consumer, are supposed to have received that memo through osmosis.

Correct Chris. Those old reefers have been out of circulation for quite awhile. But, I just happen to be working on a new Nn3 reefer right now. I hope to have it available by November.

If anyone is interested, I might be able to resurrect the old reefer model if my master is still intact. PM me if you're interested, otherwise sign up for my store newsletter and wait for the new model.

Republic Loco Works is still showing a couple of reefer model kits on their website. I have never built one so I can't vouch for the quality, only that pics I've seen are part of the reason I decided to make my own reefers. Also be aware that the Tiffany reefer they show is NOT an Nn3 model, it's HOn3 or larger. I hate when companies do that.
