How many (and which) of the 4 wheels are driven?

The pair on the left are the drivers. The two on the right spin freely. I wondered how the tapering would effect how the bricks would line up, and there was no issue. Horizontally they match perfectly.

Your question triggered an idea how this might be accomplished...Imma have to play around a bit with this but I think it might be possible. Speaking of which, what would really help is to know what a standard brick size in smoke stacks is? They seem to be larger and more square. That would help with making a pattern, actually.

They do work on bananas, but the banana auxiliary bracket extension (BABE) was too expensive.

I have seen plenty of large smoke stacks made with what appeared to be regular bricks. Or ones which appear to have a more rectangular standard brick-like proportions.

The "standard" brick isn't the only size, even today, and until concrete blocks became common there really wasn't a standard.  Every company made their own size, and some would even make custom sizes.  The current "standard" is sized to mesh well with blocks.

For those who don't mind paper bricks, here is an interesting site that lets you design your own bricks, then print as many copies as you like.  It's free, and the only thing you download is the finished print file, nothing to install.
