Testing Karma Module
« on: August 17, 2014, 02:35:05 PM »
Today the Railwire has a new feature:  the ability to raise or lower a user's karma.  You can read about it here:

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/SMF2.0:Features_and_Options#Karma

You'll notice the links to do this are underneath one's avatar (i.e., to the left of this post).

This will be in test for the next week or two and we'll see how it goes.  I'm hoping that being rewarded for providing quality information and being 'decent' will inspire the group.  If successful, this will be tied in to some of the 10th anniversary things I'm planning for next month.

As always, I appreciate your feedback.

Best,
:tommann:

Will we know who's smiting us?   'Cause I've got some smiting to do.

TRW is going to determine the nature of my next existence?

Oh, crap.

BTW, I don't see any links, just the score.  Or do you need over 4200 post to do it.  8)

Is it Instant Karma or just regular?

Just what we need... more opportunity to piss each other off and distract from actual modeling....      Or perhaps this is just a way to use peer pressure to discourage whining and complaining?  Could be "karma", but I think I sense a disturbance in the Force...

(Maybe the "popularity contest winners" should win a subscription to MR Video Plus...?)

Same here - no links, just the score. I see Tom has already racked-up +6 points for himself.

Gotta say, I don't like this idea. Go ahead and ding me if you need to. The people who are helpful, will always be helpful. The people who complain and never share anything about their modeling will not change their behavior as a result of this.

I would also argue that the troll face icon has done more harm than good. At times it seems that people toss out inflammatory statements, but try to make them better by adding the troll face. Maybe this is the same with all the icons (except of course this one:  :tommann: ), but troll face almost invites controversy.

My two cents, since you asked.
Best wishes, Dave

I'd give some of you props, but I only see scores, no links.

Not a bad idea to try, Tom. It means TRW just became the most important website out there, cause Karma is a you know what.

I much prefer nscale's "thanks" button.  Nice way to to say thanks to a post without needing an actual reply.

I'm a bit skeptical of something like this, but perhaps this will allow topics to become more content focused and less "+1" oriented.

This is getting silly.  Just when I was at peace with the other changes.  What is next? The FB "Like" button?   We need less karma and more dogma.  ;)

If the Karma mod doesn't take, maybe try the "Advanced Reputation System".  More of an agree or disagree system and might better show where people are at on a topic or comment.
