My guess they're permanent fixtures at this point. The NCR Geeps were still sitting in Eureka yard too. Since the north end will likely never meet the south end again and all of the interested parties are too poor to haul the cars and locos out for scrap it will likely take an act of dog to make them go away. I'm surprised the mongrel environmentalist community has not torn them down and taken them out piece by piece, considering they represent the evils of lumbering.
They're still trying to figure out a way to make the line viable to Willits and north to Eureka. SMART is replacing almost all the trackage south of Windsor (as of the last time I read an update) for the new commuter line to the bay. The "new" NWP is doing fairly well running out of Shellville towards Petaluma, and north.
