My weekend update:
   Installed another TCS CN decoder in another of my Walthers N GP38-2.

Made some modifications to my MTL Wilson reefer.  I picked up replacement parts to redo the underbody so I could use Atlas 50-ton Barber trucks to get the proper ride height.  Also installed #1016 couplers mounted in the inner holes instead of reusing the #1015 couplers and drilling new holes.  The Ajax brake hardware and more-detailed hatch latches were done previously.

Stumbled upon some Heki HO scale poplars on sale and realized they look a lot like tall northern aspens.    Mixed in with some Heki conifers trimmed down in diameter, the forest really came to life on the diorama. 







and on the prototype front..   this old beater was still chugging along at CN's Sarcee yard in Calgary this week

More work progressing (slowly) on the Santa Fe RSD-7 and RSD-15s, based on the Atlas B40-8 mechanism with
Atlas C628 trucks. 

This is the progress on the Santa Fe RSD-7 #601 shell:







The Model Power high-nose RSD-15 shell isn't 100% accurate for a Santa Fe RSD-7, but it's pretty close, and close enough for me.
The above is brush-painted Polly Scale Engine Black, with Microscale 60-247 decals.
After all the decals / number boards are finished, a overcoat of Model Master flat lacquer will seal the decals / cover blemishes.

Certainly I'm not a professional model painter, but hopefully this will serve as inspiration / example
of what a everyday model railroader can do with a bit of basic tools, time, patience, and enjoyment.

I like the upgrades. What exactly did you do to the underbody to accommodate the Atlas trucks?

Now working on scratchbuilding a replacement for one of the Pullman stepwells which has inexplicably disappeared off the model . . .

Had the Gandy Dancers over this week, but nothing really photo worthy. We got some more tortoises installed in the passenger terminal throat. We also tried out a new gizmo that I built: a router mounted to a trammel made of Masonite. It cut beautifully smooth arcs through the 1/2" plywood that is destined to become the helix. We got the first turn cut and experimented with different means of getting it mounted. In the end, we figured that each turn will have to be two pieces. I think we've got the process figured out, so just 5 more turns to cut. I also took delivery of most of the track for the helix, so hopefully I'll be able to show off some helix building progress in the next few weeks.

I did nothing. The original floor had been modified to use MTL trucks and sit at the proper height. Which is why a new floor was required to use the more-appropriate Atlas trucks.

So just a new stock MT floor, but with Atlas trucks, and it sits at the correct height?
I have the same car so I'm interested in doing a similar upgrade.
