Interesting.  The 40' bulkhead flatcar in the middle photo appears to be the prototype for the old Atlas/RivaRossi model.

If true, that's quite an eagle eye you've got there! I wasn't aware the PRR had this class of car. Do you think it's lettered for the PRR?  But it is painted gray, so, hmmm. Interesting.

Yes, but why? Potable? Nonpotable? I figure if it was meant for the engine, it wouldn't be in MOW paint.

It has to be Pennsy MOW, as it's in the MOW consist.  It could be an F30 with bulkheads added for all we know.  But at that distance, it sure does look like the Atlas/RR model.  And, most if not all of the Atlas/RR tooling from the late 1960s was based on actual prototypes even if the model never was painted in the prototype's scheme.  So it would be interesting to learn what the prototype is for the 40' bulkhead model and if Pennsylvania had them.

UPDATE:  I just checked George Irwin's site, under the A1G section.  The model was tooled in Austria by Roco, not in Italy by RivaRossi.  No information there on what prototype the model was based on.

D78 classes.  D78, D78R, D78a, D78aR, D78b, D78bR, D78c, D78dR, D78ddR, D78edR and D78fR.  Some modified with round roofs and some kept the old roofs.  I do know that the D78ddR diners had diesel engines for electric to the diners (i.e. electric stove, etc).  You need to get Pennsylvania Dining Cars by Liliestrand and Sweetland which covers all PRR diners.  It also listes the dates of use of the diners which comes in handy for modeling purposes.

The Central Vermont used extra tenders on work trains so that they could work harder for longer without needing to stop for water. This is probably similar.

I have all the books in that series! Great books!  What's the difference between the b and c, though?
