The water sight glass is on the wrong side.

And I wonder if they fixed the stupid drilling holes which they placed on the OUTSIDE of the radiators, instead of on the inside of the shell (for mounting winterization hatch).

Don't get me wrong, over all, this was a pretty good loco... but they goofed in a couple of ways.

Here's hoping they fixed ALL the goofs.

Oddly, the sight glass mark is only on the Conrail units:

Probably an artwork issue.

I was happy with mine. The issues took about 5 minutes to fix and the fans popped off for easy conversion to BLMA etched parts. The engines run well. Glad to see them being re-run.

To me, the only thing this model had going for it was the frame accepted a short fuel tank which is a major Conrail Spotting feature.. So I'd pickup 6-8 from the bargain basement just for the drives and short fuel tanks.... (and probably come out ahead selling Atlas drives and LL shells separate...)

Beyond that, nothing exciting..  Just got a chuckle :) ~Ian

If you do...I could use a shell, prefer undec, but won't be too choosy, need one of these, a GP60 shell, and a GP9 frame, and got me my BL20-2.

Dan,
You are right.  They do run well.
And the fact that they are adjusting the PC board for DCC readiness is good.

And I think another strong part of this loco is the walkway.  They are very nicely done.

So my hope is that they also make adjustments to the shell.

That's what I'm counting on. I have a bunch of the older runs I'll gladly get rid of for these. Also, that number was probably never in the quality paint scheme from the pics I found online,

I only hope that they do not adjust the price like they did the SW-9.

Prices look like they're in line with the last run produced according to BLW

What exactly are the differences between Walthers and Atlas GP38-2's body/phase wise?

Can anyone with one of these and an Atlas GP38 check to see if the Atlas shell will fit on the chassis?  If these can do the small fuel tanks, that will be nice for doing NS GP38s
