Working on the bridge.  I have a bunch of leftovers from an HO Central Valley truss bridge.  They're a bit bulky, but the price is right...







I should probably add some plate girders to the long span over the street, but I like the way the steel lattice work makes the bridge a lot more complex and detailed.  I plan to paint the whole assemblage primer gray, then weather it substantially with a lot of washes and rust.

There's a lot more to add in terms of structure and detail, but you can get a feel for the direction I'm taking from these shots.

No, no, no, no, no!  I'm all for your frugality when it comes to modeling, but I'm going to have to call "shenanigans" on you for that lattice girder in the place of a plate girder.  You bust on Phil for the spacing of his trestle bents, and then you pull this move?!   Please have that trucker underneath the bridge move before you roll the 44-tonner through, please.

Lee, you can also look at the Plastruct styrene parts line for latticework beams. They have several sizes and the smallest ones may be more in scale for yout needs. The #90651 1/8" lattice truss is good. I used these parts for a through truss bridge I was trying to build.

I like the view intended view but the short lattice work abutment looks out of place. I think an additional "long" latticework abutment, straddling the street on the other side of the tracks would make it look right to my eye.

I love everything. Except the viaduct in general.

It just doesn't remind me of East Baltimore.

I think the fancy latticework of the girders makes it look even more out of place.

I'm going to add plate girders on that part of the bridge, because I, too, don't like the length of the span vs. the lightweight construction.

Tim:  No, there's no need for the extra length on that pier, it's wide enough to catch the plate girder, so why would the railroad spend the money if it doesn't have to?  The other pier is wider because it has to span the street at that location. 

Ed:  I'm thinking the trestle where the B&O crosses Boston Street just east of the big grade crossing on the NS.  No, it's not in densely urban neighborhood like mine is, but it curves, has a couple of different bridge types in it, and carries the railroad over a roadway.  I also wanted to capture the essence of places like the WM bridge at Owings Mills, the M&P in Towson, and a couple of spots on the old Catonsville Branch.  The NEC also crosses above some busy streets on the East Side on steel trestles, so I feel like it's not out of place at all.

Once I get the model of Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway built, there will be no question as to locale!
