I could help myself and took a knife to one of the SD70Ms. I'll be using a Kato SD40-2 cab and nose for this build.

Secondly I got decals done on NS 8718. I'll install the railing and get a final clear coat on it for weathering.

Nothing photo-worthy for me - we are finally done with the kitchen remodel (plumbers reconnected the radiators Friday) so there's a ton of unpacking that goes with that.  But in free minutes, I have been entering rolling stock into a spreadsheet Ed sent over (H/T) so I can have some idea of my inventory.  Truns out for a guy with a smallish switching layout focused on petroleum stuff, I have a decent sized TOFC/COFC fleet.

The MT truck bolsters depend on the type coupler pocket they are molded with IIRC. The regular couplers have the offset and the medium extended couplers have the centered bolster.

The 89' flats and autoracks have no coupler but they are still offset.

Here's the whole layout - this is 3 years from day I started it.

Max, that looks magnificent. Do you have a layout thread going anywhere? I don't believe I've ever seen a track plan or read about what you're modeling.

Jim... THANKS!
No, no layout thread.   I am very happy with it, but I never considered it to be anything that "magnificent" so I didn't do a layout
thread.  It's really a roundy-round  to depict generic "pacific northwest in the 1950s" so I have a pretty place to run my trains and photograph them, although there are passing sidings and yards to give the trains "something to do", even though it's not
an operations-oriented layout.

The trackplan went through many months of development with lots of help from forum folks in the old Atlas Forum before it went down.

If you go to my website (www.maxcow.com) and click on the left pane, layouts, "Current NP / SP&S", there is a big set of chronological photos of its construction, including a track plan.

I'll get back to modeling someday!
But! We're all moved in at our new digs in Baltimore. We need to have a gathering of the asshats! Maybe we can all get some pizza and gelato!

In other news, moving sucks!

Max, Your layout has come a very long way since I first saw it last year. Wow! Will be good to see it in person again. You put a lot of operation in a small bedroom. Great modeling.

It feels like it has only been less than 2 years since you broke foam on that great pike Max . Puts another meaning to words , fast tracks . Now that it is at this stage how satisfied are you with it ? What ticks you off about it ? Plans in the future ?

Agreed. America (and much of Canada) wants to know more. (And thanks for the link to your track plan, Max.)

Ha!  Okay, you guys... THANK YOU for saying such nice things about the layout.  Really, when I look at the other
layouts developed in here, and the scenery, I don't think it's anything special.

So I don't distract this thread any further, I will open a layout thread and answer the questions over there...
sometime later on tonight, I hope.

Max, your layout looks great!

Speaking of layouts, last Saturday I visited a famous layout.
