Kato Amtrak Superliner II Transition Sleeper announced

Finally! Something that should have been done long ago. Every train that uses Superliners has one.

Just wish they would release a new number for the baggage car instead of 1221 for what the third (at least) run?

If you're interested in Phase III paint, Kato offers baggage car #1241 in the set with a step down coach.  Since I don't really need another baggage car, I might be willing to split that set with you.  Let me know, 'cause I'm this close to pulling the trigger on that purchase.

This baggage car would be great for the 40th Anniversary Train/Museum Train correct? As I've been thinking about doing that train as well. Phase III is my favorite scheme even though I model 2012 time period.

Think AMTK 10093 would be the only one for it, but thats fine.

Hmm, guess I could get a few Phase IV cars to add to my Phase III sets.

Being 93 is the middle of my modeling period.

I model roughly around '95 - '98.....so I've got the opposite.  Mostly Phase IV, with a couple Phase III mixed in, and a P42 in Phase V.  Great time period to model Amtrak.  Lots of Phases available.

I agree that a little variety is a good thing.  I model 1983-86, so I've wondered how plausible it is to add a one or two Phase II cars to my Phase III fleet.  Phases II and III are my favorites.

Modeler's license.  I like that.  Besides, like I should be worried about the appearance of a Phase II car on my layout, considering that I'm running Superliners on an East Coast train in the 1980s.   

FYI, I did order that step-down coach and baggage car last night from MBK.  Unfortunately, I can't use a transition sleeper on my train, because they're a product of the 1990s, but the step-down coach obviously existed in the 1980s.  I'll have to use that instead.

While you're at it, throw a Viewliner on there too.  That'll get the protoheads foaming....errr frothing.

Step down coach is a nice car as well.  Just need to paint the interior from the ATSF light blue.

Not as much as people might think... typically if its still Phase III then its retired, but the new Viewliner II cars which are being branded as Amtrak America are to be painted with the Phase III striping.  So far there is a baggage, baggage - dorm, diner and sleeper released from the manufacturer, though they are still seeing only limited use...

What is Phase VI? I've seen this elsewhere, and to my knowledge there is only phase V for current locomotives, and Phase IVb for other equipment? Though I would also consider the new viewliners a Phase IIIb.

It looks like this Superliner will have NEW trucks: General Steel Castings trucks as opposed to the German-designed truck for the Superliner I. Or perhaps they are just using the trucks from the Viewliner?

Can anybody please confirm that?

Which leads to the question: Is this a Superliner II as opposed to the Superliner I models from previous runs?
